Latest developments, major players highlighted at <strong>2009</strong> edition of ALUMINIUM<br />
<strong>DUBAI</strong><br />
Dubai, 9 th April <strong>2009</strong>: The global financial crisis notwithstanding, participation at the<br />
recently concluded ALUMINIUM <strong>DUBAI</strong> <strong>2009</strong> exceeded expectations as it gathered<br />
more than 3,087 industry professional from more than 68 countries and 166<br />
exhibitors from across the industry spectrum, in attendance at the Middle East’s<br />
largest aluminium <strong>show</strong>.<br />
“A steady economic outlook for the region, economic buoyancy, combined with the<br />
heavy investments by the Gulf states in the aluminium sector encouraged<br />
participation from both the exhibitors and trade visitors from across the globe looking<br />
to penetrate the UAE and GCC markets,” said Tarek Ali, Show Manager,<br />
ALUMINIUM Dubai.<br />
Ex<strong>press</strong>ing its intention to build its presence in the region, Dr Anthony Tropeano,<br />
CEO of FATA EPC - Division of FATA S.p.A. said: “We are currently developing<br />
numerous downstream projects in the Gulf in Qatar, Oman, UAE, Egypt and Saudi<br />
Arabia. ALUMINIUM Dubai has been a good platform for us to meet with companies<br />
and potential clients in the region. We met with several Gulf companies and we are in<br />
discussion with developing new projects such as transforming primary aluminium to<br />
secondary semi-finished industry products to create add value.”<br />
Using ALUMINIUM <strong>DUBAI</strong> as its launching pad, Emirates <strong>Aluminium</strong> (EMAL) CEO<br />
Duncan Hedditch, CEO of EMAL said: “This is EMAL’s home territory, so we were<br />
very pleased to be able to <strong>show</strong> off our project at this year’s ALUMINIUM Dubai. The<br />
level of interest <strong>show</strong>n was pleasing, and we look forward to being able to support<br />
the exhibition with our presence in coming years.”<br />
Proved a meaningful platform for Dubai <strong>Aluminium</strong> Company Limited 'Dubal', the<br />
Platinum sponsor of the exhibition. So says Abdulla Bin Kalban (President and CEO<br />
Dubal), who explains that Dubal achieved its objectives from participating, namely:<br />
promoting the company, highlighting the emerging aluminium industry hub in the<br />
Middle East with particular emphasis on Dubal's relationship with Emirates<br />
<strong>Aluminium</strong> 'EMAL', and <strong>show</strong>casing the city of Dubai.<br />
Commending the quality of exhibitors at the trade <strong>show</strong>, Mansoor Katibeh, an<br />
Engineer from Bond Sazeh Pars, an Iranian importing company said: “We came here<br />
to forge business relationships with Gulf companies. This is our first time at an<br />
aluminium <strong>show</strong> in Dubai and it is looking good for us.”<br />
Visitors at the trade fair included senior executives from major industry players from<br />
around the world including Mexico, Canada, the US, Australia, India, the UAE and<br />
other Gulf countries.<br />
According to industry reports, the Gulf States are investing heavily in aluminium<br />
production including construction of a $3.76 billion aluminium smelter with an annual<br />
capacity of 623,000 tones. The Gulf’s primary aluminium output could reach as much
as 4 million tones a year (t/y) by <strong>2012</strong> and could prompt expansion across the<br />
region’s aluminium-processing industries.<br />
New primary smelters up and coming in the region are Qatar, the UAE, Oman, with<br />
future developments in the Saudi Arabia. Global output is expected to reach 60<br />
million tones by 2020. When the new planned projects come on stream, the Middle<br />
East could even double its production.<br />
Organised by Reed Exhibitions Middle East, ALUMINIUM <strong>DUBAI</strong> took place from 29<br />
– 31 March <strong>2009</strong> and played host to 166 companies from 24 countries, occupying<br />
6,000 sqm of exhibit space at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition<br />
Centre (DICEC). The <strong>show</strong> was inaugurated by H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al<br />
Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance.<br />
Over 40 percent of exhibiting companies at ALUMINIUM <strong>DUBAI</strong> <strong>2009</strong> <strong>show</strong>cased<br />
midstream technologies such as aluminium extrusion, casting and heat treatment,<br />
while smelting, plant engineering, fabrication and other technologies made up the<br />
rest. The exhibitor portfolio at this year’s edition included products used for building<br />
and construction, transportation, electrical and mechanical engineering, factory<br />
equipment, packaging, and container construction, as well as those used in designoriented<br />
applications.<br />
Among the key UAE exhibitors at Aluminum Dubai are Dubai <strong>Aluminium</strong> (DUBAL),<br />
EMAL, Al Jaber <strong>Aluminium</strong> Extrusions, Alba Tower <strong>Aluminium</strong> Factory Ltd, ATBIN<br />
International, Gulf Extrusion, Inma-Gulf Development and Construction LLC, CIE<br />
Environment Dubai and Smartouch, among others.<br />
International exhibitors include SMS Demag, FATA Group, Zenergy Power Pty Ltd,<br />
Hydro ASA, RHI AG, Harbin Dongsheng Metal Co. Ltd and, Nanjing Welbow Metals<br />
Co. Ltd,, to name a few. Germany and Norway have national pavilions at the event.<br />
Nineteen of Reed Exhibitions’ global partners at its other aluminium <strong>show</strong>s including<br />
ALUMINIUM Essen, ALUMINIUM China and ALUMINIUM India have participated at<br />
the <strong>show</strong>. Companies including Harbin Dongsheng Metal Co Ltd, Zenergy Power Pty<br />
Ltd, Compagnia Italiana Ecologia SRL, Claudius Peters Technologies GmbH, EMAL,<br />
Alba Tower and CIE Environment Dubai have hosted workshops at ALUMINIUM<br />
Dubai.<br />
