NEWSLETTER | APRIL 2013ALUMINIUM 20147- 9 Oct 2014 | Messe Düsseldorf10th World Trade Fair & Conference4www.aluminium-messe.comALUMINIUM – excellent model for successIt was an incredible feat which ALUMINIUM 2012 and itscommitted exhibition team pulled off without any hitches.More than 65,000 square metres of space were „packedup“ in Essen in 2010, and more than 75,000 squaremetres were then rolled out for the next world fair whichwas held in Düsseldorf last October. New records werealso posted in exhibitor and visitor numbers. For us the organisers, these results represented one ofthe greatest successes of the year. The entire ALUMINIUMexhibition team was presented with an award at the end ofthe year by the parent company, Reed Exhibitions, for thisoutstanding achievement. The recognition has also spurredus on to redouble our efforts for ALUMINIUM 2014 inDüsseldorf.Following the launch of the event in 1997 as an initiativeof the GDA, ALUMINIUM has since developed into one ofthe most successful industrial trade fairs in the world.Collaboration with the GDA as institutional patron hasproven to be a key success factor. The cooperation wasrenewed in the form of a new partnership contract a fewweeks ago. The new agreement applies indefinitely. The GDA will continue to function as the institutionalpatron and congress partner of ALUMINIUM in the future. What began 16 years ago in Germany has also beengrowing at almost the same breakneck pace internationally –with ALUMINIUM fairs now flourishing in Shanghai, Dubai,Mumbai and Sao Paolo. The next international event willbe ALUMINIUM MIDDLE EAST 2013 which is being eagerlyanticipated by the growing aluminium industry in the MiddleEast. It is scheduled for 23 to 25 April in Dubai; thelargest ALUMINIUM trade fair of the year – ALUMINIUMCHINA – will then open its doors in July.I would be delighted to see you again at one or more ofthe upcoming events.Your Markus M. Global NewsALUMINIUM MIDDLE EAST 201323 - 25 April 2013, DubaiGCC countries expected to produce almost 13% ofglobal aluminiumCompanies set to participate in the upcoming edition of‘ALUMINIUM MIDDLE EAST’ that takes place in Dubaifrom April 23 to 25, 2013, are eagerly looking forwardto capitalise on the numerous opportunities that theevent is expected to present, especially in the backdropof the forecast that Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countrieswill produce as much as 13% of the global aluminiumproduction in 2013. This is driven mainly by aggressiveinvestments in the region’s aluminium industry, includingconstruction of new smelters and the expansion of thepipeline network that has further reinforced the region’sposition in the global market. With global demand for aluminium estimated to increaseand reach 70 million metric tons per year by 2020, GCCcountries are expected to boost aluminium productioncapacity by up to 40% to reach 5 million metric tons by2014, from around 3 million tons in 2012. Moreover, the demand for aluminium in the architectural, buildingand construction sectors in the GCC nations is forecastto grow from 400,000 tons per year to 531,000 tonsper year by 2021.Mohammed Bader-Eddin, Show Director of ‘ALUMINIUMMIDDLE EAST 2013’, points out, “The signifi cant costadvantages of the aluminium smelters in the Middle Eastare enabling them to maintain or increase production andadvance capacity expansion plans, while some high-costprimary aluminium smelters outside the region have cutor ceased production in response to low metal and highpower prices.Given this scenario, the GCC’s aluminium industry ishighly anticipating ALUMINIUM MIDDLE EAST 2013,which will feature the expansion and investment plans ofthe Gulf’s key players and provide a robust platform forexpanding market reach within the region.”His Excellency Ahmad Al Tayer, Governor of Dubai International Financial Centre(DIFC) at ALUMINIUM DUBAI 2011Among the key attractions of ALUMINIUM MIDDLE EAST2013 are the Innovation Podium and the BusinessMatching service designed to serve exhibitors and visitors, enabling them to benefit from industry learning andnetworking opportunities with some of the most importantproducers and global manufacturers gathered under oneroof.Further information: www.aluminium-middleeast.com| 4 |
