Fairhaven Tennis Association announces tourney winners
The Fairhaven Tennis Association has announed the
winers of the Al Dellecese Junior Tennis Tournament held
on Saturday, August 20.
Winners of the 14 and Under Boys and Girls Division
were Trevor Schwarzman (Dartmouth) Champion, Matt
Barron (Boston) 2nd Place, and Connor Powers
(Fairhaven) 3rd Place.
In the 18 and Under Division Aaron Makhijani of
Somerset was the champion, Kevin DiBiasio of Fairhaven
took second, and Dan McLaughlin of Fairhaven took third.

Fairhaven resident among those honored by YTI

Three area people have won
awards for exemplary community
service. The trio was honored at Your
Theatre, Inc.’s annual Volunteer
Appreciation Day celebration held on
August 13 at Rose Alley Ale House
located in the historic New Bedford
Waterfront Area.
Fred and Maureen Scott of
Dartmouth each received Volunteer
of the Year awards and Cynthia J
Messier of Fairhaven was honored
with a plaque commemorating her 40
plus years of service as a YTI
volunteer.
Mr. & Mrs. Scott, also active with
the organization for over forty years,
were cited for their work on
numerous productions and manage -
ment projects, including over 20
years as box office staffers, a position
in which they are still actively
involved.
Ms. Messier, a retired Fairhaven
school teacher, was honored for her
many years of extraordinary service
to YTI. Over the years she served as a
prompter, set painter, actress, stage
manager, director and Box Office
Manager as well as the theatre
company’s president from 1977 to
2003.

Palmer praised all of the
recipients “for having given their
time and talent unselfishly and
tirelessly toward the continued
success of Your Theatre’s
commitment to providing profes -
sional quality community theatre
to the SouthCoast region.”
Your Theatre President, Joan
Indio of Mattapoisett,
commended the hard work and
dedication of the volun teers and
gave special thanks to Caroline
Cuccia and her Volunteer
Development Committee for
planning so excellent a volunteer
appreciation event.
In its coming 65th season of
continuous operation, which
runs from September 2011 to
June 2012, YTI will showcase five
major productions and several
special events ranging from
comedy, mystery, and drama, by
well-known authors as well as
the new works by local and
national upcoming playwrights.
