<strong>Fairhaven</strong> Tennis Association announces tourney winners<br />

The <strong>Fairhaven</strong> Tennis Association has announed the<br />

winers of the Al Dellecese Junior Tennis Tournament held<br />

on Saturday, August 20.<br />

Winners of the 14 and Under Boys and Girls Division<br />

were Trevor Schwarzman (Dartmouth) Champion, Matt<br />

Barron (Boston) 2nd Place, and Connor Powers<br />

(<strong>Fairhaven</strong>) 3rd Place.<br />

In the 18 and Under Division Aaron Makhijani of<br />

Somerset was the champion, Kevin DiBiasio of <strong>Fairhaven</strong><br />

took second, and Dan McLaughlin of <strong>Fairhaven</strong> took third.<br />

Three area people have won<br />

awards for exemplary community<br />

service. The trio was honored at Your<br />

Theatre, Inc.’s annual Volunteer<br />

Appreciation Day celebration held on<br />

August 13 at Rose Alley Ale House<br />

located in the historic New Bedford<br />

Waterfront Area.<br />

Fred and Maureen Scott of<br />

Dartmouth each received Volunteer<br />

of the Year awards and Cynthia J<br />

Messier of <strong>Fairhaven</strong> was honored<br />

with a plaque commemorating her 40<br />

plus years of service as a YTI<br />

volunteer.<br />

Mr. & Mrs. Scott, also active with<br />

the organization for over forty years,<br />

were cited for their work on<br />

numerous productions and manage -<br />

ment projects, including over 20<br />

years as box office staffers, a position<br />

in which they are still actively<br />

involved.<br />

Ms. Messier, a retired <strong>Fairhaven</strong><br />

school teacher, was honored for her<br />

many years of extraordinary service<br />

to YTI. Over the years she served as a<br />

prompter, set painter, actress, stage<br />

manager, director and Box Office<br />

Manager as well as the theatre<br />

company’s president from 1977 to<br />

2003.<br />

recipients “for having given their<br />

time and talent unselfishly and<br />

tirelessly toward the continued<br />

success of Your Theatre’s<br />

commitment to providing profes -<br />

sional quality community theatre<br />

to the SouthCoast region.”<br />

Indio of Mattapoisett,<br />

commended the hard work and<br />

dedication of the volun teers and<br />

gave special thanks to Caroline<br />

Cuccia and her Volunteer<br />

Development Committee for<br />

planning so excellent a volunteer<br />

appreciation event.<br />

In its coming 65th season of<br />

continuous operation, which<br />

runs from September 2011 to<br />

June 2012, YTI will showcase five<br />

major productions and several<br />

special events ranging from<br />

comedy, mystery, and drama, by<br />

well-known authors as well as<br />

the new works by local and<br />

national upcoming playwrights.<br />
