This course is designed to inform participants about the<br />

basic principles <strong>of</strong> caring for persons who suffer from<br />

withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs. The course<br />

will review the state <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nevada</strong>’s laws and regulatory<br />

guidelines for operating and working in a Level 111.2<br />

D (Social Model Detox Program) and a Level 111.7 D<br />

(Modified Medical Detox Program), and will include a<br />

section on commonly used medications for detox along<br />

with a skills-based section on the proper way to measure,<br />

record, and report vital signs. A significant portion <strong>of</strong> the<br />

course will be dedicated to teaching participants about<br />

the biopsychosocial aspects <strong>of</strong> withdrawal from AOD and<br />

will also address engagement and retention strategies at<br />

this level <strong>of</strong> care.<br />

The purpose <strong>of</strong> this workshop is to educate providers<br />

on what SIDS is and how to reduce the risk <strong>of</strong> accidental<br />

deaths due to unsafe sleep situations. By the end <strong>of</strong> this<br />

session, you should be able to:<br />

1. Define SIDS and the myths associated with SIDS while<br />

identifying behaviors and contributing causes that increase<br />

the risk <strong>of</strong> SIDS.<br />

2. Explain the differences between SIDS and deaths caused by<br />

unsafe sleep situations.<br />

3. Become familiar with safe sleep situations for newborns –<br />

12 month olds and describe factors associated with healthy<br />

living style.<br />
