Clare Apana also provided to <strong>the</strong> Commission a copy <strong>of</strong> a letter from Daniel Kanahele<br />

addressed to SHPD explaining what he considered were <strong>the</strong> inadequacies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

archeological inventory survey. In <strong>the</strong>ir comments on <strong>the</strong> Draft EIS <strong>the</strong> Maui Planning<br />

Commission directed representative Charlie Jencks to Work<br />

with people that have provided comments regarding <strong>the</strong> archaeology <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> site to clarify<br />

findings<br />

In response to <strong>the</strong> Maui Planning Commission o<br />

ie Jencks, consultant archaeologist Aki Sinoto, and<br />

consultant cultural advisor Kimokeo Kapahulehua participated in a site visit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<br />

were archaeologist Morgan Davis and cultural historian Hinano Rodrigues. Community<br />

members present included: Lucienne de Naie, Daniel Kanahele, Janet Six, Elle Cochran,<br />

Uÿilani Kapu, Keÿeaumoku Kapu, <strong>Lee</strong> <strong>Altenberg</strong>, and ÿEkolu Lindsey. Some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

community members had previously: 1) presented testimony, or were present, at <strong>the</strong> Maui<br />

ft EIS was<br />

discussed; 2) submitted information to SHPD claiming that <strong>the</strong>y had found archaeological<br />

sites on <strong>the</strong> Property that had not been included in <strong>the</strong> archaeological inventory survey<br />

dated March 2010 included in <strong>the</strong> Draft EIS; and 3) submitted written comments on <strong>the</strong><br />

Draft EIS expressing concerns regarding archaeological sites on <strong>the</strong> Property.<br />

Subsequent to <strong>the</strong> site visit, SHPD issued a letter dated September 8, 2010 stating that no<br />

significant unrecorded sites were noted at that time (i.e. during <strong>the</strong> August, 26, 2010 site<br />

visit). <br />
