The Renaissance Refectory and Vitruvian Café Opened in 2011, Renaissance and Vitruvian are the College’s new food outlets, offering students a wide choice and variety, ranging from healthy light snacks to substantial meals, freshly filled rolls, wraps and sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and home-made cakes. Renaissance forms part of the Nexus complex, while the Vitruvian Café can be found in the Leonardo Building. The Leonardo Building Home to our Engineering, Art, Media and Publishing faculties, the Leonardo Building incorporates specialist areas, including workshops, dark rooms, studios and exhibition areas. Main Hall and Holcote House Yeovil College has an excellent reputation for Performing Arts. Drama, dance and music events take place regularly throughout the year in both the Main Hall and Holcote House performance venues. Both locations are equipped with stage, PA and lighting, offering students the opportunity to perform in a professionalstyle setting. The Learning Centre Designed to support different learner needs, the Learning Centre is equipped with a comprehensive selection of up-to-date resources including books, ebooks, journals, online subscriptions, WiFi and over 120 PCs. Students are supported by knowledgeable Learning Resource Advisors, who can help in finding resources and accessing the computers. Fifth Floor Science Centre The Fifth Floor Science Centre is an outstanding open-plan laboratory suite with computer access, supporting Science teaching and learning for the 21st Century. Its unique design has prompted visits from other colleges and it provides a working atmosphere where Science can be enjoyed. Advanced Engineering Facilities Our extensive Engineering workshops, advanced machine tools and modern engineering facilities enable us to deliver a wide range of advanced Engineering courses including key areas of CNC Machining, Composites, CAD, CAM, Rapid Prototyping and Process Control. Fitness Centre The Fitness Centre provides a full range of aerobic and resistance equipment, including an extensive free weights area. All equipment is Inclusive Fitness Initiative accredited and suitable for disabled sports persons. The adjoining multipurpose Sports Hall is available for public hire. Students can use the sports facilities to enhance their learning experience and take part in community sport. Inductions are free and specific gym programmes are also available free of charge as well as lifestyle and nutritional advice. A Level Academy The A Level Academy is an exciting new development at Yeovil College’s Mudford Road campus. Designed with the specific needs of A Level students in mind, the £1.1 million Academy aims to foster a culture of academic ambition and achievement and offers a modern and inspirational environment like no other available locally. Facilities Because the Academy has been designed specifically with A Level students in mind, it incorporates spaces which reflect and serve their particular needs. As well as incorporating our existing open plan Science labs, the Academy offers a suite of high quality teaching environments equipped with up-to-date audio-visual and interactive technology. The Academy also has social and relaxation areas where students can wind down between classes. The A Level Academy Learning Centre The A Level Academy also includes its very own Learning Centre. It has been specifically designed to have an academic feel to help prepare students for higher level study and a future in the workplace. The Centre offers a wide range of A Level-Specific online resources and ebooks as well as more traditional resources such as textbooks and DVDs. This is complemented by a comprehensive research skills package developed and tailored especially for Yeovil College A Level students. The Learning Centre staff have strong links with lecturers so that they can ensure all the resources needed for A Level courses are up-to-date and highly relevant. The Centre includes formal and informal areas for supported or independent study, as well as group working zones. The design and technical infrastructure actively encourages students to use their own laptops, smart phones and tablet PCs for study, making the A Level Academy a genuinely innovative, modern study environment. Staff Our A Level students are supported by a team of academic staff who have a unique understanding of how to help them fulfil their potential and get the most from their time at Yeovil College. In addition, the Learning Centre is staffed every day during term time in order to give students individual support for research, writing assignments and referencing skills. Learning valuable skills Construction Skills Centre Lufton, Yeovil The Construction Skills Centre is a dedicated campus for Yeovil College Construction courses. It is fully equipped to support both full-time courses and Apprenticeships in subjects including Electrical Installation, Plumbing, Carpentry, Bricklaying and Construction Maintenance Operations. Facilities The Centre has purpose-built workshops for Electrical Installation, Plumbing and Carpentry as well as a multi-skills workshop where you can explore other construction crafts, such as Painting & Decorating and Bricklaying. The Centre also has its own classrooms and its own dedicated on-site computer suite, which supports live exams and online testing. Studying at the Centre Students at the Construction Skills Centre have exactly the same benefits and support as those at our other sites. You will be fully supported by our tutorial system with a dedicated one-to-one Personal Tutor and will be encouraged to use our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Fitness Centre and the Learning Centre. You will also have access to enrichment activities at the Mudford Road campus and other linked centres. Location and Transport The Construction Skills Centre is easy to find. It is directly opposite the Yeovil Town Football Club stadium in Lufton, Yeovil. There is a regular connecting bus service every morning and evening from the College’s main campus, which links to all the major routes across Somerset and North Dorset. If you are travelling independently, there is secure, off-road parking.
