The Federal Way Chorale
The Federal Way Chorale was founded in
the Spring of 1993 by a small group of Federal
Way musicians-people who loved to sing and
saw a need for a community choir that emphasized
the performance of quality choral
literature from all ages and styles. Over 130
singers auditioned for the Chorale. Eightyeight
were chosen and the Federal Way
Chorale, under the direction of Don Barrows,
began its first rehearsal in the Fall of 1993. In
its first season, the Chorale's repertoire consisted
not only of major works such as Handel's
Messiah and Schubert's Mass in G, but also a
wide variety of quality octavos from "Bach to
Broadway." Now in their second season, the
Chorale numbers over 100 singers.
The Philharmonic looks forward to many
years of collaboration with the Chorale.

The Federal
Way Chorale
Don Barrows, Conductor and Founder
Don Barrows received his Masters Degree
in Music Education from Eastern Washington
University. Since then, he has continued his
studies in choral conducting with such wellknown
conductors as Norman Luboff, Roger
Wagner, John Rutter and last winter with
Robert Shaw at Carnegie Hall. A high school
choral conductor for many years, Barrows has
been recognized throughout the Northwest for
his outstanding choirs and has been frequently
called on as an adjudicator and guest conductor
at choral festivals. As a strong supporter of
music in the community he was one of the
founders of Puget Sound Musical Theater and
the musical director of Harmony Unlimited for
many years. Presently he is the choirmaster at
St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Federal Way, a
position he has held for over seventeen years.
