A. Brian Davenport Conductor Brian Davenport is now in his 14th year as conductor of the Federal Way Philharmonic. Under his leadership the Philharmonic has grown from a volunteer orchestra to one of the finest professional orchestras in the Puget Sound region. In january 1989, Davenport traveled to Finland to conduct Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Tampere Finland Messiah Chorus, one of Scandinavia's most respected ensembles. In 1990 Davenport conducted the Federal Way Philharmonic and the Interfaith Choir of Seattle in a sold-out performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in the Seattle Opera House during the Goodwill Games. Featured in the annual Chaliapin Festival at the Tatarstan Theater in 1991 and 1992, he conducted Don Pasquale, La Traviata and Faust. In 1992 he conducted the world premiere performance of Handel's Messiah in Russian at the theater with soloists and chorus from the opera company and the Tatarstan Philharmonic Orchestra. A recording of this concert has been heard on hundreds of radio stations throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Russia and Asia. In December 1992, the Federal Way Philharmonic brought the chorus and soloists from the Tatarstan Theater of Opera and Bailet to perform the U.S. premiere of the Russian Messiah under Maestro Davenport's direction at the Auburn Performing Arts Center. In January 1994, Davenport traveled to China to conduct the Beijing Symphony Orchestra as part of a reciprocal cultural exchange. This year he will serve as the music director of the Evergreen City Ballet and conduct their performances of the Nutcracker Ballet in December in the Auburn Performing Arts Center. Next spring he travels to Ukraine to conduct the Kharkov Symphony Orchestra. Davenport received a B.A. and M.A. in Music from Harvard, followed by studies in Paris with Nadia Boulanger and Igor Markevitch. He conducted the Monte Carlo Symphony and the Darmstadt Orchestra and held posts in the Cologne and Darmstadt Operas. 4
