July 2011
Dear Parents/Guardians
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the support that you have given me this
year.
There have been many student successes this academic year, and I would like to pass on
just a few. Toby Bowles will be having his Art work exhibited in a National Gallery in London.
Caitlin Hazelgrove, Shaquille Jack and Joshua Parry, who are County athletic champions, will
be joined by Matthew Axe and Marissa Robertson in representing the County for Athletics at
National Level. Congratulations must also go to the Dance for Life group who have won both
the County and Regional Red Cross Dance competition and will be in the National Finals at
the O2 Arena.
We have enjoyed several superb activities arranged by the Ramsay Association this year and
I know that we can look forward to some extremely exciting events next year. Our monthly
newsletters, I hope, are keeping you up to date with the many activities and successes at
Sir William Ramsay School.
School will finish at 12.30 p.m. on Thursday, 21 July. Please could you ensure that you have
made arrangements for your son/daughter to travel home at this earlier time. There will
be no lunch break on Thursday, any students entitled to free school meals will need to
collect them from the canteen during morning break.
The school calendar will be issued on the first day of the Autumn term with all dates set for
the entire academic year. I would, however, like to give you a broad outline of dates for the
next academic year:
Open on morning of: Close at end of day, or as
indicated:
Autumn 2011 7 September, 2011 21 October, 2011.
31 October, 2011 16 December, 2011 (12.30 p.m)
Spring 2012 4 January, 2012 10 February, 2012
20 February, 2012 30 March, 2012 (12.30 p.m)
Summer 2012 16 April, 2012 1June, 2012.
11 June, 2012 19 July, 2012 (12.30 p.m)
This is also a reminder for parents that when the new school year starts at 8.35 a.m. on
Wednesday, 7 September, it is important that all students have full school uniform, and to
assist you with this I have attached a full uniform list. Please could I draw your attention to
the fact that school trousers and skirts must be mid-grey in colour. Skirts must be worn at
knee length and we now request that school skirts do not have slits in them as, unfortunately,
these are becoming quite revealing and embarrassing for others. Students’ hair should be of
natural colour with the length no shorter than a ‘Grade 3’ and should not have sculptured
patterns. Could you please also note that we do have a no jewellery policy.
As from September 2011, the Music Department will require all students to bring their own
headphones to all Music lessons. Headphones need to have a 3.5mm jack, any pair which fits
an ipod or MP3 player will be suitable. This requirement is primarily to ensure that Health &
Safety regulations are adhered to as well as ensuring that all students are able to access the
whole of the Music curriculum. Should you have any further queries on this matter, please do
not hesitate to contact Mrs Francesca McCarthy, Teacher In Charge Of Music.
I am also pleased to notify you that we have been fortunate enough to be able to arrange for
a photograph to be taken of the whole school (staff and students) on Wednesday,
7 September. There will be an opportunity for parents to purchase a copy of this photograph
and details of this will be sent to you. I would be grateful if you could make a special check to
ensure that your child is wearing the correct uniform. I regret that anyone not wearing the
correct uniform on the day may not be included in the photograph.
Mobile phones and other electronic equipment are not allowed on the school premises.
Students must not, under any circumstances, bring sharp or bladed objects on to the school
site.
I do hope that you all enjoy a happy, safe and pleasant Summer holiday.
Yours sincerely
Mrs. G. Comber
Headteacher.
