I was flabbergasted when I stopped by
the Byoms in North Bend to visit with
Doris and Roland. She and I had been
talking about getting together for a couple
of years but it just didn't work out.
First of all, I was surprised at the baseball
memorabilia - pins, signed baseball,
autographs, clippings. But then she
starting putting photo albums on the
table. The collection of old photos of
North Bend area were phenomenal, but
when I pulled out my camera to take a
few snapshots of them, she handed me a couple of baskets and smiled. In the baskets
were envelopes all numbered matching the numbers in the albums. She had already
made copies of each of them. Needless to say, I'll be going back. Oh, by the way,
she makes great chicken soup!
They're here! The new Apple Affair Bike
get them. You can also order them on your Pre-
“Was that the second
driveway, or the third?”
By: Debra Wilkening
Galesville Postmaster
Did you ever think about the way we
give directions? Many of us go to
great detail to help people find their
way. Does this sound familiar? “It’s
very easy! Turn left at the furniture
store. Watch for the big pothole in the
road, and take a left just past the
church on the corner. Go down
Lover’s Lane for six blocks and look
for the yellow house on the
right. Count three driveways, then turn
in the fourth. YOU CAN”T MISS IT!”
When you address your cards, letters
and packages, or write your return address,
or tell someone your address,
please don’t take shortcuts.
Make sure you include all of the details
necessary to help us deliver for you:
* When addressing an envelope or
package, print the address legibly,
in permanent ink, and in capital
letters if possible, so it can be read
at arm’s length. Do not use com
mas or periods. And remember: If
the address can’t be read, it can’t
be delivered.
* For customers who don’t get street
delivery, we advise dual addressing.
Since the physical address is
different than the mailing address
we suggest: JANE DOE, 19656 E
GALE AVENUE, PO BOX 234,
GALESVILLE WI 54630. The mail
is delivered to the address immedi
ately above the city, state line. For
the street address, always include
the apartment or unit number, and
any other information that helps
distinguish the location.
* Sometimes a directional (E,W) is
the only thing that distinguishes
the destination from another ad
dress just like it clear across town
(19716 Gale Ave E vs. 19716 Gale
Ave W). Make sure to include it
when applicable.
* Save the last line for the city, state
and Zip code. Use the abbreviation
for the state. If you don’t know the
Zip code, you can go to
www.usps.com and click on Find a
zip code.
* Always include a return address in
the upper left-hand corner on the
same side of the mailpiece as the
delivery address. Make sure it’s
complete too. For instance, if you
live at N15454 County Road K Lot
B6, be sure you include the lot
number.
“Honey, was that the second
driveway, or the third?”
Even the smallest mistake can mean a
big difference in handling your mail. If
you dial the wrong telephone number,
you don’t get the correct person on the
other end. The same holds true for your
mail. One wrong digit in a zip code can
be the difference between Galesville and
California. For more information on
proper addressing you can call 800-
