Papers. He has extensive work experience, hav<strong>in</strong>g worked as a legal adviser<br />

<strong>in</strong> Eritrea, researcher <strong>in</strong> different NGOs, an <strong>in</strong>tern at the International<br />

Crim<strong>in</strong>al Court <strong>and</strong> a TMF Human Rights Fellow of Columbia<br />

University, USA. Currently, Mr Weldehaimanot is an adjunct faculty<br />

member at The Women’s College of the University of Denver, USA,<br />

where he teaches courses <strong>in</strong> law <strong>and</strong> society.<br />

Tom Ojienda, an Associate Professor at the Moi University School of<br />

Law, Kenya holds an LLB degree from the University of Nairobi, Kenya,<br />

an LLM degree from K<strong>in</strong>gs College, London, UK <strong>and</strong> an LLD from<br />

UNISA. A cheven<strong>in</strong>g legal scholar, Professor Ojienda is an experienced<br />

litigation lawyer with competencies <strong>in</strong> the areas of l<strong>and</strong> law, constitutional<br />

law, environmental law, gender, human rights <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternational law. He<br />

currently serves as a Commissioner with the Kenyan Truth, Justice <strong>and</strong><br />

Reconciliation Commission. He has served as the President of the East<br />

<strong>Africa</strong> law Society, the Chairman of the Law Society of Kenya, the Vice-<br />

President of the Pan <strong>Africa</strong>n Lawyers Union <strong>and</strong> as a member of the<br />

Council of the International Bar Association. In 2009 he was appo<strong>in</strong>ted to<br />

the Em<strong>in</strong>ent Panel of International Lawyers to study the legal system <strong>in</strong><br />

the <strong>Democratic</strong> Republic of Congo <strong>and</strong> make recommendations on good<br />

governance. He also served as SUR Focal Po<strong>in</strong>t for East <strong>Africa</strong>. He has<br />

served as the Chairman of the L<strong>and</strong> Acquisition Compensation Tribunal<br />

(LACT), a member of the National Environment Tribunal (NET) <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Legal <strong>and</strong> Technical Committee of the National L<strong>and</strong> Policy Formulation<br />

Process. Besides several articles <strong>in</strong> refereed journals, he has authored<br />

several books. Professor Ojienda has served as a consultant for the Njonjo<br />

Commission on <strong>in</strong>quir<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to the l<strong>and</strong> system <strong>in</strong> Kenya, the Ndungu<br />

Commission on illegal <strong>and</strong> irregular allotment of l<strong>and</strong>, National Task<br />

Force on HIV/AIDS, the World Bank, ACCORD, USAID, East <strong>Africa</strong>n<br />

Community <strong>and</strong> the SADC. He has also served a Board Member of the<br />

American Biographical Institute, the Council of Legal Education <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Kenya Industrial Property Institute.<br />
