12. ENHANCING THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS PROGRAM Peg Saragina, Coordinator, International Student Program will make a presentation on plans proposed to enhance and expand the International Student Program at Santa Rosa Junior College. She noted the purpose of the program is to provide more global perspective for local students, increase diversity among the student population and increase revenue for the college. Her presentation included statistics on international student enrollment in top US states, F-1 visa students in several California community colleges including SRJC and the revenue generated. She then outlined the first steps in moving forward to expand the current program at SRJC. 13. STATUS REPORT ON BOARD POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR PROGRAM APPROVAL AND EVALUATION Mary Kay Rudolph, Vice President of Academic Affairs, and Terry Shell, past president of the Academic Senate, provided a status report of the first year of implementation of the policies and procedures for Approval of Certificates and Majors and for Program Review, Evaluation, Revitalization and Discontinuance. Terry presented the Academic Senate’s perspective and reviewed the consultative process with the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Mary Kay Rudolph noted the in-depth review and scrutiny of data regarding transfer options, student and community needs and financial implications in making recommendations. This review will continue with further recommendations forwarded from EPCC. 14. OUT-OF-STATE TRAVEL REPORT Doug Roberts, Vice President of Business Services reviewed the out-of-state conferences and meetings attended by district employees and the actual cost to the District, 15. REPORTS A. Academic Senate Robin Fautley gave the following report: •meetings have been held regularly over the past month to discuss the Teaching Fellows Program, that will be funded through the anonymous gift of $5 million to SRJC. Among the discussion is how it will be set up and how will students be recruited, connecting students to mentors, and shepherding students through the educational experience. •Continued discussions about grants including recent participation in meetings on National Science Foundation and Hanover grants. •Attention is on events of this week: the Circle of Honor, the new faculty orientations for regular and adjunct faculty, events scheduled for Professional Development Day. •Robin looks forward to the beginning of a new academic year. B. Classified Senate Debbie Weatherly reported the following: •the classified staff are looking forward to the Professional Development Day, that will include the entire college staff meeting together on one campus throughout the morning. On Monday Debbie attended a workshop on appreciative inquiry that will be the method used during the breakout sessions. •The Classified Senate is planning to join with Staff Development to set up a mentoring program for classified staff. They will be recruiting seasoned staff members to team up with new members of the classified staff.
•the Classified Senate is planning their events for the year and will continue with morale programs such as GEM, Secret Pal, Friendship Week, Winter Cookie Fest, Classified BBQ, and Classified Recognition Week. They are also discussing ways to foster sustainability throughout the district by encourage use of recycled products. •Debbie is serving on the Strategic Planning Task Force, scheduled to meet on August 24. C. Associated Students Jessica Jones gave the following report: •Thanked the administration and Dr. Chong for including student input in the Strategic Planning session as well as PDA. The students are also eager to work with the Academic Senate in getting diverse faculty and student input in this process. •Busy week for students: they have a Goal Planning session on August 15; Associated Student mixer on Thursday afternoon in the Center for Student Leadership; the first Advocacy meeting will be held this week focusing on legislative issues, how to get students involved; students will also be working on collaborative action and sustainability plans. Students are also working on a planning retreat. •Associated Students have also been working on an Ambassador Program to help new students navigate through the library. 16.
