5. BOARD MEMBER REPORTS A. Board Facilities Committee Trustee Burdo reported the following from the August 7, 2012 Board Facilities Committee meeting: B. Robert Burdo Culinary Arts Center Project – An update was provided on the close out of the last prime contractor and final extension for Wright Contracting. Shone Farm, Porter Barn Wood Fencing Replacement – Tony shared photos of the eastside corral wood fencing that requires replacement. The Board Facilities Committee approved a freestanding steel corral design, which will be installed by District staff. Bussman AC Unit Replacement Update – Tony reported that the installation of the new cooling unit for the data center is in progress, with completion by late August or sooner. Steve Olson Lane and Entry Monument Update – The project has already broken ground, with the current schedule of completion by early October, 2012. Cogen Replacement Project – Tony reported that the temporary chiller will be installed by August 10, with replacement of the old engines to begin soon after and completion by early November, 2012. Following this report, Trustee Burdo made a brief review about the Board Facilities Committee, indicating that it is a subcommittee of the full Board that is made up of three trustees. This body meets once a month on the first Tuesday of the month. The purpose is to go over facilities related items in detail. He noted that a great deal of time is spent on reviewing, listening, discussing, and if needed, requesting more information before making a recommendation to bring forward to the full board for approval. B. SRJC Foundation Trustee Edgar gave the following Report: –The SRJC Foundation is pleased to announce that fiscal year 2011-2012 more than $7.6 million was secured in support of students, faculty and programs at the college. Included in this total was an outright anonymous gift of $5 million that will be used to establish a Teaching Fellows Program, Completion Incentive Award, and provide need-based scholarships. –On August 15 the SRJC Foundation and Scholarship Office will host the 18 th Annual Circle of Honor to recognize donors who have provided scholarship and program support, and to introduce donors to student recipients. For the 2012-2013 academic year, over $1.3 million will be awarded for scholarships, internships and program awards. –The SRJC Foundation and Bertolini Family remain committed to bringing back the Day Under the Oaks, May 2013. Sarah Laggos, the Foundation’s new Alumni Relations and Annual Fund Director will serve on the planning committee. C. College President Report President Chong reported the following –the Paramedic Technician graduation ceremony was held May 27, with Trustee Burdo present to represent the Board. –SRT had a great season; he was able to attend two productions. –Shone Farm Olive Oil was awarded double gold at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair Professional Olive Oil Competition. He thanked Chris wills, Leonard Diggs and staff for their part in this endeavor.
–At this year’s PDA will be the launch of an educational master plan project. Will also include a guest speaker Rob Johnstone on best practices 101. –Fall classes will begin August 20. Student Services staff have worked all summer in preparation, including student ambassadors. –Introduced Sarah Laggos, new director of the Foundation’s Alumni Relations and Annual Fund who will reach out to former SRJC students. C. Board Member Comments –Trustee Burdo congratulated Trustees Edgar, Call and Lindley on their re election to a new term. These trustees ran unopposed for their seats on the Board of Trustees. –Student Trustee Michelle Dowling gave the following report •she attended the Associated Students annual retreat, noting the fiscally responsible decision to condense the trainings and workshops to two days instead of three, that resulted in cost savings of facility fees and food expenditures. •she attended the CCLC annual Student Trustee workshop that included legislative update, information on how community colleges are funded, update on Governor Brown's tax initiative that will dramatically impact education and public services depending on its passage during this November's election. •she attended the CCC Association of Student Trustee's (CCCAST) meeting that focused primarily on legislative issues including the Middle Class Scholarship Act, AB 1500/AB 1501. This bill would bring $150 million back to the community college system, yet is controversial since this amount is based on assumed projections of a closed corporate tax loophole, and is not guaranteed in the text of the bill. •she looks forward to participating on the Student Success Task Force: Increasing Student Completion Panel during PDA day. 6. OUT-OF-COUNTRY TRAVEL TO SWEDEN Approved the out-of-country travel to Borås, Sweden for Lisa Beach, adjunct faculty in the Computer Studies Department, from September 7-22, 2012 to meet with instructors and students from the Swedish Student Project, at no cost to the District. B. INSTRUCTOR LOAD REPORTS FOR SPRING, SUMMER AND FALL 2012 Approved the final Spring 2012 Instructor Load Report, changes to the Summer 2012 Instructor Load Report since the July meeting, and an initial Fall 2012 Instructor Load
