The Power of Money
Money is an inanimate object that we created centuries ago to enable us
to more effectively share our goods and services with one another. It has
no power or authority other than what we assign it. Over time we have
assigned it immense power and immense authority. We have created
a culture of money – one which has shaped us in ways that have gone
beyond our conscious processes.
The Haskayne School of Business – together with the Centre for
Inspired Living offered a unique event in October, 2007. Lynne Twist,
Founder of the Soul of Money Institute and author of the award-winning
book: The Soul of Money: Transforming your Relationship with Money and
Life appeared at an exclusive dinner event to deliver her message to a
crowd of more than 100 alumni and friends of Haskayne.
A global activist, fundraiser and author, Lynne Twist has devoted her life
to service in support of global sustainability and economic integrity.

Who Owns Canada Now?
Close to 100 Haskayne alumni, stakeholders and members of Calgary’s
business community gathered on April 18, 2008 at a book launch luncheon
celebrating the latest publication by award-winning National Post
Columnist Diane Francis.
The most recent addition to Diane’s list of eight bestselling books, Who
Owns Canada Now profiles dozens of Canada’s billionaires and explores
how Canadian business, economy and entrepreneurs have mastered the
challenges of globalization, the North American Free Trade Agreement, the
threat of Quebec seceding from Canada, U.S. protectionist threats, recessions
and the depression then explosion in commodity prices.
Diane Francis is well known for her business reporting and commentary.
She is an award-winning editor-at-large and columnist for the
National Post; a bestselling author of eight books and a highly regarded
broadcasting presence, known for skilfully interpreting the impact of news
events on the business community.

Haskayne Alumni Chapter Annual
General Meeting
For the second consecutive year, the Haskayne School of Business Alumni
Chapter hosted their Annual General Meeting at Theatre Calgary.
Alumni, board members, faculty, students and staff participated in the
eighth AGM, which was followed by a lunch reception catered by the
Delta Bow Valley and Theatre Calgary’s production of Beauty and the Beast.
Highlights from the event included the election of the 2008-2009 Board
of Directors, message from the incoming president, and a message from
the Vice Dean of the Haskayne School of Business.
Plans are already underway for the next year’s AGM, scheduled for April
26, 2009. The production will be “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.” Mark your
calendars and keep your eyes open for updates.
MBA Alumni Networking Luncheon Series
The 2007/08 MBA Alumni Networking Luncheon Series was a great success,
thanks to our informative speakers, alumni participants, and support
from many of Calgary’s business professionals.
The luncheon series was developed to provide Haskayne alumni with
valuable networking opportunities in a relaxed and informative atmosphere.
Speakers include graduates of the MBA program, business and
community leaders, as well as topic experts and Haskayne faculty.

September through April, at the Delta Bow Valley, 209 4 Avenue S.E. from
