Congratulations to the Haskayne School of Business
Graduating Class of 2008!
This June, the Haskayne School of Business was
very pleased to welcome more than 500 new
graduates to the alumni family.
So now that you have your degree, wouldn’t
it be nice if your school helped you to use it to
its full potential?

forward in the world of business. We consider

Haskayne alumni are highly involved –
they enjoy coming back and helping out
in everything from mentoring students to
sitting on advisory committees. The Alumni
Office is the “hub” that brings alumni
together with students, and with each other.

Long Standing Professor Malcolm Munro Retires
After his 33 year career as an outstanding contributor to the Haskayne School of Business,
Professor Malcolm Munro officially retired on August 31, 2007. Munro graduated from the
University of Saskatchewan with a BComm in 1969 and then earned an MSc and PhD in
Management Information Systems at the University of Minnesota. He joined the University
of Calgary in 1974 and established the business school’s first courses and programs in MIS.
He served as Area chair for MIS over a number of years, Associate Dean (Research) from 1991
until 1996, Associate Dean (Planning) from 1997 until 1999, and was the first director of the
PhD program. From 2000 through 2006, Malcolm served as vice president of the Association
for Information Systems (AIS), the principal MIS academic association. Malcom’s significant
contributions to his field in teaching, research and service were formally recognized when he was
inducted as an AIS Fellow in December 2007, only the second Canadian to be so honoured.
Malcolm made a very particular contribution to the Haskayne School of Business’ building,
Scurfield Hall, which opened in 1986. During both the design and construction phases, he
served as the Chair of the Building Committee and together with Dean Mike Maher met with
state of the art architects, incorporating their latest design ideas into the planning.
The Haskayne School of Business would like to recognize Malcolm Munro for his exemplary
career, tireless commitment to his faculty, colleagues and students, and his many outstanding
accomplishments.
