4.2 GETTING A BUSINESS LICENSE<br />
4.2.1 Where to Go<br />
To obtain a business license visit the <strong>Guam</strong> Department<br />
of Revenue and Taxation between 8:00 am<br />
and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday at 1240 Route<br />
16 in Barrigada, <strong>Guam</strong>, and follow the signage to<br />
the business licensing department. You will be<br />
asked to register your business name and to provide<br />
a completed business license application.<br />
4.2.2 Necessary Paperwork<br />
Obtaining a business license for your company on<br />
<strong>Guam</strong> is a relatively simple process, especially for<br />
sole proprietorships. Companies structured as a<br />
partnership, corporation, or limited liability corporation<br />
will need to provide copies of the partnership<br />
agreement or articles of incorporation, whichever<br />
is relevant, to obtain a license.<br />
4.2.3 Government Clearances<br />
You may be required to visit other government<br />
agencies for specific clearances prior to obtaining a<br />
business license. The <strong>Guam</strong> Department of Revenue<br />
and Taxation will be able to direct you to the appropriate<br />
agency.<br />
<strong>Guam</strong> EPA is responsible for issuing permits and<br />
clearance for a variety of activities that have or<br />
may potentially have an impact in the island's<br />
ground or surface water, and depending on the<br />
type of business you will operate you may be required<br />
to obtain a clearance prior to receiving your<br />

4.2.4 Employer Identification Number<br />
If you have employees or operate as a partnership<br />
or corporation, your business will need an Employer<br />
Identification Number (EIN). A number of other<br />
types of businesses (those dealing with alcohol,<br />
tobacco, firearms, trusts, and others also required<br />
an EIN. Verify your status at www.irs.gov. An<br />
Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known<br />
as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used<br />
to identify a business entity. Generally, businesses<br />
need an EIN. You may apply for an EIN in various<br />
ways, and now you may apply online .<br />

Taxpayers can obtain an EIN immediately by calling<br />
the <strong>Business</strong> & Specialty Tax Line<br />
(800-829-4933). The hours of operation are 7:00<br />
a.m. - 10:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday.<br />
An assistor takes the information, assigns the<br />
EIN, and provides the number to an authorized individual<br />
over the telephone.<br />

4.2.6 One Stop Center<br />
For Building Permits and Inspection<br />
The Government of <strong>Guam</strong> Department of Public<br />
Works operates the One Stop Center where business<br />
obtain necessary building permits and inspections<br />
needed for most business licenses.<br />
