There are many resources available to assist you<br />

with the business planning and financing stages of<br />

establishing your business. The wise entrepreneur<br />

will take advantage of as many of these resources<br />

as possible, and to plan well in advance to utilize<br />

the services prior to beginning operations.<br />

Contact with the following organizations will help<br />

you identify the specific resources available to you,<br />

and will help determine the strengths and weaknesses<br />

in your business concept. By identifying the<br />

opportunities and challenges before hand, you can<br />

plan to best handle them for the good of your<br />

business. It’s best to know them in advance, than<br />

to wait until you are fully occupied running the<br />

company.<br />

The Pacific Islands Small <strong>Business</strong> Development<br />

Center Network (PISBDCN) oversees the lead Small<br />

<strong>Business</strong> Development Center (SBDC), the <strong>Guam</strong><br />

SBDC located on the University of <strong>Guam</strong> campus in<br />

Mangilao, and four subcenters - the<br />

Kosrae, Chuuk and Yap SBDCs located in the Federated<br />

States of Micronesia; the Palau SBDC in Koror,<br />

Republic of Palau; and the RMI SBDC in Majuro, Republic<br />

of the Marshall Islands.<br />

The PISBDCN offers free counseling and technical<br />

assistance, including help with business plan preparation,<br />

through the Small <strong>Business</strong> Development<br />

Centers operating under PISBDCN auspices. The<br />

SBDCs also provide a variety of workshops throughout<br />

the area for a nominal fee.<br />

The PCEI, established specifically to help western<br />

pacific entrepreneurs establish and grow,<br />

offers entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial<br />

adult training, resource experts for<br />

entrepreneurs at all levels, technical assistance<br />

for small business planning initiatives, local and<br />

relevant market and industry information for<br />

industry development, and readily accessible<br />

information through its resource database.<br />
