The college continued to face problems such as inadequate physical facilities, poor revenue<br />

mobilisation and poor financial management practices remain. The managerial capacities <strong>of</strong><br />

administrative staff still remains a challenge also need upgrading to bring the performance <strong>of</strong><br />

the college to acceptable standards. Also, the college is finding it difficult to accredit<br />

adequate health facilities to support the training <strong>of</strong> its students because most facilities are less<br />

endowed with the requisite resources. Finally, trends in enrolment depict a reduction <strong>of</strong><br />

about 30% due to lack <strong>of</strong> sponsorship. The College hopes to overcome its challenges which<br />

were mainly financial, material and human resources and also improve its performance in<br />

<strong>2009</strong><br />

The thrust <strong>of</strong> the College is to expand the continuous pr<strong>of</strong>essional development<br />

programmes, improve training outcomes and build general capacities to enable College<br />

operate more efficiently.<br />

Priority Activities<br />

• Promote specialist education (residency training, CPDs and District Rotations)<br />

• Facilitate research and publication in medicine, surgery and related disciplines<br />

• Strengthen financial management systems, administration and auditing<br />

• Promote collaborative links with local and foreign bodies<br />

Expected Results<br />

• Specialist Education programme implemented (100 candidates admitted for residency<br />

training , 2 CPD and 6 months’ district rotation organized for 2 nd year trainees, 40<br />

lectures , 40 tutorials and 40 clinical demonstration per year per each training<br />

department organized)<br />

• 1 clinico-pathological conference/seminar per month in each discipline at each<br />

training department to be held<br />

• Research outcomes published within 3 months<br />

• College newsletter published twice a year<br />

• Medical journal published once a year<br />

• Pr<strong>of</strong>essional competencies <strong>of</strong> administrative, accounting and auditing staff improved<br />

through in-service training and short courses<br />
