-- Begin treatment <strong>for</strong> uncomplicated malaria: prescribe and observe her as she takes Artesunate-<br />
Amodiaquine (four each) or tablets quinine, depending on client’s preference and paracetamol<br />
(two tablets).<br />
-- Instruct her on how to take the medication <strong>for</strong> Day 2 as well as paracetamol (two tablets every<br />
6 hours until her temperature returns to normal).<br />
-- Instruct her on how to take the medication <strong>for</strong> Day 3<br />
-- Tell her to return to the clinic in 48 hours if she is not feeling better, or immediately if she has<br />
signs and symptoms <strong>of</strong> complicated malaria (e.g., convulsions, loss <strong>of</strong> consciousness).<br />
-- Tell her that she must take all <strong>of</strong> her medication, and describe the side effects it may cause<br />
Tinnitus , Skin rashes, Stomach upsets , Low blood sugar, Low blood sugar, if she is on<br />
quinine).<br />
-- Tell her about the causes <strong>of</strong> malaria and how to prevent it, including the use <strong>of</strong> ITNs.<br />
-- Talk to her about her need to prepare a birth plan.<br />
-- Give iron and folate tablets, and counsel her to eat foods with adequate sources <strong>of</strong> iron. Begin<br />
tetanus immunization if necessary.<br />
-- Schedule an appointment <strong>for</strong> her second ANC visit at 32 weeks.<br />
-- Record all findings and treatments on her Maternal <strong>Health</strong> Record Card.<br />
-- Thank her <strong>for</strong> coming to the clinic<br />
