PPMA Show 2015 is motoring ahead to be better than ever event The PPMA Show 2015 this autumn will be bigger and better than the 2014 event following a host of new contract signings. Taking place from 29 September to 1 October at the NEC Birmingham, this year’s show will see more space and more exhibitors gracing Hall 5. And taking centre stage on the first morning will be former CBI director general and avid Leicester Tigers fan Lord Digby Jones who will open the three-day event. “The 2015 event is going very well and we’re nearly up to 2014 levels already,” explains exhibitions manager David Harrison. In brief VISION ADVANCES VISION 2014 saw nearly 9,000 visitors flock to Stuttgart to see the latest developments in vision systems especially the everexpanding field of machine vision. Chairman of the VDMA Machine Vision Association in Germany Dr Olaf Munkelt felt the development of machine vision had been spectacular. Strong demand for automation solutions and machine vision benefits were seen from all over the world, particularly in Asia and China. “It would be difficult to master the increasing requirements of a modern production line without machine vision,” he said. And, he asserted, by 2017 more than 400,000 industrial robots will be installed in the factories of China, many of which will be equipped with robot vision that has been made in Europe. ABB ROBOT LEGACY TRAINING OFFERED A new facility has been opened by IRb Training to offer programmer, operator and support training for second hand or older ABB robots. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, the dedicated 200m sq facility has three robots installed already and more will follow. Chief trainer Ray Bland has over 30 years of robot application experience. “Our courses will be production-oriented and of a standard at least equivalent to ABB themselves,” he says. “The advantages of training offsite is that there is no danger of personnel being pulled away to ‘sort something out’ and there is ample quiet space to cover theory.” Some of the previous courses have ranged from standard programming and operation through to bespoke tuition for multi-machine, multi-purpose operations.
