WHAT’s HAPPENING AT MPMA?
MPMA works hard to address the needs of our members through
workforce development, education, legislative activity, and
advocacy. Here is an overview of the current activity we are
engaged in to Drive Success in Minnesota Precision Manufacturing:

Jaime Nolan, MPMA executive director, and Luann
Bartley, MPMA associate director, gave a presentation
about the benefits of careers in manufacturing to school
administrators, principals, and teachers at the Project Lead
the Way conference in Pequot Lakes in March. Nolan and
Bartley received feedback from many of the administrators
and principals that the information presented was
“eye-opening,” and they were encouraged by the new
information they received regarding career opportunities in
the manufacturing fields.
The Board of Directors voted to approve the launch of
the first organized chapter of the MPMA. The chapter
will be the nine county area defined as “Region 9” by the
Department of Employment and Economic Development
(DEED). This encompasses the manufacturing companies
in the counties of Blue Earth, Nicollet, Le Sueur, Waseca,
Freeborn, Sibley, Martin, Watonwan and Brown.

MPMA served as a major sponsor and several MPMA
members attended Business Day at the Capitol on March 10
to help advance Minnesota’s business legislative priorities.
MPMA joined together with the Manufacturers Coalition
and other members of Minnesota’s manufacturing
community to help save the Manufacturer’s Advocate
position established by Governor Pawlenty several years
ago. Following an announcement by DEED that the
position was being eliminated, the group met with DEED
to express their disappointment in the decision and the
important role the Manufacturer’s Advocate position has
played in connecting manufacturing businesses with the
governor. Within a few weeks of the meeting, DEED and the
governor approved reinstatement of the position.
