Beim Eröffnungsgespräch zur multimedialen Installation
»N Polytope« spricht der kanadische Künstler Chris Salter
über sein Interesse an den Aktionen des griechischen
Komponisten und Architekten Iannis Xenakis. Dieser schuf
in den 1960er- und 1970er-Jahren mit seiner Idee eines
»Polytope« ein neuartiges Raumgebilde, in dem sich Licht,
Klang und Architektur verbinden. Salter erläutert,
wie er Xenakis’ Ansatz heute künstlerisch neu interpretiert.

Xenakis developed the idea of a »polytope«‚ a new
type of spatial entity that integrated light, music
and architecture. Salter elucidates his new artistic
interpretation of Xenakis’s approach.

Richard Sapper – Lifetime Oeuvre

Richard Sapper numbers among the most important
designers of the twentieth century. His legendary Tizio
lamp from 1972 was one of the first desk lamps with a
halogen bulb. Sapper created many other iconic
designs, including the folding radio TS522 (1964) and
the Grillo folding telephone (1965), both in collaboration
with Marco Zanuso. In his lecture, Sapper looks back at
a large and significant oeuvre. He currently maintains
offices in Milan and Beijing.

Richard Sapper – Ein Lebenswerk

Richard Sapper ist einer der wichtigsten Designer des
20. Jahrhunderts. Mit seiner legendären Leuchte Tizio
schuf er 1972 eine der ersten Schreibtischleuchten mit
Halogenlampe. Auch viele andere Entwürfe Sappers
wurden zu Designikonen, so etwa das zusammen
mit Marco Zanuso entstandene Klappradio TS522
(1964) oder das Klapptelefon Grillo (1965). In einem
Vortrag blickt Sapper auf ein großes Werk – noch
heute hat er ein Büro in Mailand und eines in Beijing.

Olafur Eliassons Little Sun Project –

2012 entwickelte der Künstler Olafur Eliasson
zusammen mit dem Ingenieur Frederik Ottesen die
Leuchte »Little Sun«. Mittlerweile ist daraus ein
Unternehmen entstanden, das völlig neue Wege geht –
Kunden können per Internet Leuchten kaufen, während
Mikrounternehmer die Leuchte bis in die entlegensten
Gebiete Afrikas und Asiens vertreiben. Felix Hallwachs,
enger Mitarbeiter Eliassons und Geschäftsführer von
»Little Sun«, berichtet vom Aufstieg und den Zukunftsvisionen
eines Projekts, in dem sich Kunst, Design,
Ökonomie und gesellschaftliches Engagement auf
neue Weise verbinden.

In 2012, artist Olafur Eliasson developed the »Little Sun«
lamp in collaboration with the engineer Frederik Ottesen.
Since then, a pioneering company has formed that
is blazing new trails – customers can purchase the solarpowered
lamps on the Internet and micro-entrepreneurs
distribute the lamps even in the remotest areas of
Africa and Asia. Felix Hallwachs, a close associate of
Eliasson and managing director of »Little Sun«, describes
the rise and future visions of a project that unites art,
design, economics and social engagement in a new way.

Future Light – Interdisciplinary Symposium

Under the title »Future Light«, Vitra Design Museum is
organising a think tank that will comprise discussions
about the future of lighting design among experts from
the fields of architecture, design, lighting technology,
brain research and philosophy. In a final event that is
open to the public, the results of this interdisciplinary
dialogue will be summarised, presented for debate and
further developed. Participants: Siegrun Appelt,
Ulrike Brandi, Anna Wirz-Justice, Ralf Schmitz, Daan
Roosegaarde, Udo Heider and others.

Troika – From Light to Art

London-based studio Troika was founded in 2003 by
Eva Rucki, Conny Freyer and Sebastien Noel. The
projects created by this trio have drawn wide attention
thanks to their experimental nature – combining
sculpture, architecture and installations in new ways.
The artists introduce their work and talk about »Falling
Light«, a spectacular kinetic light installation presented
in the exhibition »Lightopia«.
