into the Za})tich's room, he was br<strong>and</strong>ed in sixteen<br />

parts of his body with red-hot rann-ods. His hair<br />

was plucked out, he was made to st<strong>and</strong> motionless<br />

only fh irteen years old. Sogho Sharoyan of Alvarindj<br />

(Moush) was conveyed from Moush to Bitlis prison<br />

h<strong>and</strong>cuffed. Here he was cruelly beaten, <strong>and</strong> forced<br />

to maintain a st<strong>and</strong>ing position without food. Whenever<br />

he fainted they revived him with douches of<br />

cold water <strong>and</strong> stripes. They also plucked out his<br />

hair, <strong>and</strong> burned his body with red-hot irons. . . .<br />

Hambartzoon Boyadjian, after his arrest, was ex-<br />

]iosed to the scorching heat of the sun for three days.<br />

'Phen he was taken to Semal, where he <strong>and</strong> his<br />

companions were beaten <strong>and</strong> shut up in a church.<br />

They were not only not allowed to leave the church<br />

to relieve the wants of nature, but were forced to<br />
