This list is not exhaustive <strong>an</strong>d only provides<br />
some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> most prominent academic <strong>an</strong>d<br />
institutional definitions <strong>of</strong> peacebuilding.<br />
The US Government does not have a publicly<br />
available definition <strong>of</strong> peacebuilding, o<strong>the</strong>r th<strong>an</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> definition provided by USIP.<br />
“…peacebuilding is a process that<br />
facilitates <strong>the</strong> establishment <strong>of</strong> durable<br />
peace <strong>an</strong>d tries to prevent <strong>the</strong> recurrence<br />

<strong>Peacebuilding</strong> is <strong>the</strong> process <strong>of</strong> creating<br />
self-supporting “ structures that “remove<br />

war in situations where wars might occur.”<br />
Conflict resolution mech<strong>an</strong>isms “should be<br />
