PREFACE
Indian agriculture and allied activities have transformed themselves by
leaps and bounds. While various government organizations are contributing
their share, farmers have themselves contributed a lot by inventing new
techniques or modifying the existing inventions. However, the innovations
or new methodologies developed by them are not receiving the necessary
attention. Hence, they need to be appreciated and verified.
The technologies of the farmers like pepper thresher, cardamom
washing and polishing machine, multipurpose processing machine and rain
tanker, cycle operated spraying unit, garlic dibbler, tractor and manually
operated winnowing fan are really commendable. Technologies for value
addition of fruits and vegetables, fermented fish, value added products of
blackgram, drumstick processing, post harvest technology for banana,
vermi-composting, herbal eggs, value addition of cow dung and urine,
electricity generation by poultry excreta are also extremely useful and
appreciable.
CIPHET, Ludhiana has made an effort to document such innovations in
form of a bulletin “Innovative post-harvest technologies developed by
farmers”. This publication is a result of presentations and demonstrations of

farmers at 2 National Farm Innovators Meet organized by CIPHET,

Ludhiana on October 31 , 2012. The innovations presented in this
publication will certainly be beneficial to different stakeholders of
agricultural development to make the agriculture a profitable business.
