Gaiy Degenhardt'c team shared the Cape American championship with Egg Harbor Township. The Raiders, who finished 7-3, qualified for the Group 3 playoffs, losing a thriller at Laceyinthe first round. • • A 6-0 loss to Absegami prevented the season from being even more successful- A win in that game and OC would have been the outright champion of the conference and the top-seeded team in die playoffs. Another big story in football was the trio known as "Run-DNC" The three running backs were seniors' Danny Davis, Heath Muzslay and Anthony Constantine (hence the D-M-C and the tie-in with the popular rap group) and they each gained more zhan 1,000 career rushing yards. It marked the first time three backs on the same OC team had all readied that milestone. There was also the OC soccer team, coached by rookie Bob Martin. They defeated Vineland and won the championship of the Cape American. .: And Trijh LeFever's field hockey team was the CAL's best and one of the best, in South Jersey. Bimbanm reached another South Jersey final, this time in girls' tennis. His dub lost a tense and very dose match with Mainland that took two days to complete. Except for Monday's Bridgeton Relays,, postponed from Saturday due to rain, Wayne Cbhnan's team has been idle this week but will be in acflon over the-, weekend at the ! Woodbury Relays. Usually one of South Jersey's biggest relay events, Woodbury is conducted over two days* Friday and Saturday. the next dual meet for the Raiders will be Tuesday afternoon against Mainland inLJnwood. . In the Bridgeton Relays/ Ocean City came in ninth, in team scoring with 10, just below Mainland with 12. Egg Harbor Township Was third with 64 points; Bridgeton and Woodrow Wilson tied for first place with 91 points in the Group nidivison. the Raiders' best showing was a third in the 2 by 400 intermediate hurdles, with McGee and Jared Case in 2:00.3. Against Vineland, Bouchard won the. 800 meters in 2 minutes, 5.9 seconds for' his first victory of the season. ' . McGee remained undefeated in the 400 meter hurdles,, winning in 57.4 seconds. He was three- : tenths of a second faster in the opening meet, a loss to Egg Harbor Township. - Bouchard and McGee were also joined by seniors Steve Ellas and Dave Garagiola to win the 1600 meter relay forthe second straight time. EUas ran the opening leg, followed by Bouchard, McGee and Garagiola. They were timed in 3:32.6, almost five seconds faster than in the opener with EHT.
