On Tuesday, September 14, 2010
forty-one members and guests of the
Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club attended
the first meeting of the 2010-2011
Snowmobile Season. Thanks to the
staff of Ski’s Northern Lights we enjoyed
a great meal in a beautiful setting.
Kay Schultz our restaurant coordinator
asked that you call for your
reservations in a timely manner,
please call her by the RSVP date
listed to help her and our hosting
restaurant out.
After dinner Steve Pulec of the
New Twilight Bar and Grill and Sue
Slominski of Slo’s Pub presented our
club with a check for $600.00 from
the proceeds of the 2009-2010 Northwoods
Snowmobile Challenge. Other
establishments supporting this fundraising
effort are the Thunderbird
Bar & Grill, Sayner Pub and the
Shamrock Bar. Please stop in and
thank them for their hard work and
generosity if you are in the neighborhood.
As was mentioned at the meeting
plans are going forth for a bridge
over a channel of the Rainbow Flowage
at the Pickerel Lake Dam which
will ease some trail problems in that
area. Thanks to Bev Dittmar for all
her hard work on getting this project
approved.
We are awaiting the delivery of our
intersection numbers. Tim & Pam
Gebhardt and family have volunteered
to install the new signs. Look
for more information from Vilas
County on this program which will
assist EMS and Law Enforcement in
locating injured or stranded snowmobilers.
Al Clemmensen informed me that
he and the maintenance crew have
our old Brush Hog up and running and
attached to one of the tractors. They
intend to go out before our Saturday
brushing date of October 16th and
start whacking some of the serious
overgrowth up to about 6 feet off

The Apple Dumplings are a group of men, mostly retired, that snowmobile
together every Wednesday during the season. The reason they are “mostly
retired” is that there are still some working guys that join us for the
Wednesday ride.
The Apple Dumplings are an informal group so there are no dues or duties.
Each Wednesday they leave from the Groomer Barn at 9 am sharp. All you
have to do is show up. Coffee and socializing is usually available starting at
8:15 am. There is a contribution each week to pay for that day’s lunch and
refreshments. Also, the group has a 3-day “overnighter” in January, a pancake
breakfast in February and a final brunch at the end of the season. An
annual tradition is a kick off dinner where riders, spouses and friends meet
to start off the season.
The Apple Dumpling Season Kickoff Dinner for the 2011 season is at Golden
Pines on Saturday, November 6th. Cocktails will be at 6:00 and Dinner at
7:00 pm. The menu choices are Prime Rib with baked potato & vegetable,
Shrimp Skewers on a bed of rice & vegetable, or Almond Crusted Chicken
Breast topped with asparagus & Blanc Sauce served on a bed of wild rice. All
dinners are $17.00 including salad, rolls, dessert, coffee, taxes and tip. To
reserve your dinner, please call Bob Schell at (715) 542-2321 by Monday,
November 1st. Please feel free to call Bob if you have any questions or

October and the time keeps marching on! Getting older
must make that process more noticeable. The warm days
really stopped abruptly this year and we are already dealing
with brilliant colors and frost on our gardens and plants. We
better start getting ready for our favorite season of the
year.
Not much to report since last months letter. Brushing day
is coming up Saturday, October 16th. Meet at the groomer
barn at 9:00 am. We will have a social hour that evening at
the New Twilight Bar & Grill to help soothe our aching
bones......maybe a lot of young people will come out this
year to give us oldies but goodies a little break? Please
come out if you can - it sure makes the day go faster with
more people.
Our driver staff will be getting together soon for orientation.
All of our equipment is ready to go, the brush hog is
mounted and ready to go to work on the trails - I hope all
goes well with that.

Fall is definitely in the air and we all know what that
means… snowmobile season is right around the corner. My
sons are already working on our snowmobiles to get them in
tip-top running order and doing all the pre-ride checks to
them. Needless to say… we can’t wait for the snow to fall
and the trails to open.
Last fall our family joined in the trail clean-up and it was
some great family time together. I would strongly encourage
all our families to join us this year. It’s a lot of fun and the
pizza party at Twilight afterwards is a great way to meet
your fellow snowmobilers.
Hope to see you on the 16th!

transfer ownership, print original decals and titles, duplicate
decals and titles for your snowmobile, boat or ATV.
Bring your information into our store and in a matter of minutes
you will be legal with the State of Wisconsin and ready

27&28: SNOWMOBILE SAFETY CLASS
Snowmobile Safety
Education Class
December 27 & 28, 2010
Beginning January 1, 2001, any person born on or after
January 1, 1985 and who has reached the age of 12, must
have completed and received a snowmobile safety certificate
in order to operate a snowmobile in Wisconsin. The certificate
must be carried while operating the snowmobile, and
displayed to a law enforcement officer upon demand. Snowmobile
Safety Education Classes are offered in the fall and
early winter, and should start appearing on the DNR’s web
site within the next month or so.
The Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club’s Snowmobile Safety Education
Class will be held on Monday and Tuesday, December
27 & 28, 2010. Anyone 11 years of age or older is eligible to
take the class and receive a safety education certificate;
however, the certificate does not become valid until the child
reaches 12 years of age. More details will be announced in
an upcoming newsletter.

Annual Club Raffle
Again this season we will be running
our club cash raffle. There will
be four raffle tickets sent with your
membership renewal form. The tickets
are $5 each with a maximum of
2,000 tickets sold. First prize is
$2,500, second prize is $1,500, third
prize is $500 and fourth and fifth
place prize is $250 each. The drawing
will take place at our dinner meeting
on March 8, 2011.

A big THANK YOU to Kent & Terri Knitt who recently
repaired several of our trail brushing trimmers
at no expense to our club. Please remember
to support those who support us with their continuing
generosity.
ATTENTION NON-RESIDENT SNOWMOBILERS
Snowmobiles bearing Wisconsin registration are not required to have a nonresident
trail pass, even if the owner is from out of state.
A two year Wisconsin registration is $30.00, compared to two trail passes at $70.00 for
two years. Almost two times the money is generated with a two year registration as is with two trail
passes due to the formula used to transfer gas tax revenue to the state snowmobile fund; the state
snowmobile fund is where the money comes from for grooming and trail maintenance. By having Wisconsin
registration instead of a trail pass, you save $40.00 every two years and contribute more money
to the state fund.
It is perfectly legal to have Wisconsin registration on your snowmobile in addition to your home
state's registration. You do not need a Wisconsin address; your home address can be used for a Wisconsin
registration. Once you have a Wisconsin registration, it can be renewed online at the DNR website.
Wisconsin registration applications can be obtained at any DNR office, at any dealer who sells snowmobiles
in Wisconsin, and at many dealers out of state near the Wisconsin border.
