sponsored function or traveling to or from such functions.<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s shall not in any way be under the influence of any of<br />
the above-mentioned substances while on school property, while<br />
traveling to and from school, at any school-sponsored or<br />
sanctioned function or traveling to or from such functions.<br />
<strong>Student</strong>s are encouraged to report any knowledge of abovementioned<br />
activities. Additionally, they are expected to remove<br />
themselves from people or situations violating these principles.<br />
Referral/Treatment Opportunities<br />
The following types of situations will merit investigation by<br />
the school community and follow up with the family:<br />
• Incident Driven •<br />
When a student is found to be in violation of any of the<br />
General <strong>Student</strong> Substance Abuse Guidelines:<br />
• The student will be confined to the school activity until a<br />
parent or legal guardian is contacted and can pick up the student.<br />
(If parents cannot be reached, efforts will be made to reach an<br />
emergency contact submitted to the school or given to the school<br />
by the student. If no contact can be made, emergency or law<br />
enforcement officials may be contacted as needed.)<br />
• A meeting will be held with the family as soon as possible at<br />
a time designated by the school.<br />
• A professional assessment and/or drug test at a recognized<br />
chemical dependency clinic will be scheduled before the student<br />
returns to school. The school can provide recommendations for<br />
testing sites, many of which are parent insurance referenced.<br />
• The administration may require that the results of the<br />
assessment be shared with the school.<br />
• The results of the assessment may lead to a requirement of<br />
more out-of-school treatment, as designated by the school in<br />
consultation with the parents, school counselor, or administrator<br />
• The student will face disciplinary actions that may include<br />
suspension or expulsion.<br />
• The student will be placed on a probationary contract. A<br />
second violation of the substance use guidelines may lead to<br />
immediate mandated withdrawal from <strong>Chaminade</strong> <strong>Julienne</strong>.<br />
• A student participating in athletic activities will face further<br />
participation penalties as described in the section “Athletic<br />
Participation Guidelines.”<br />
• Observation Driven •<br />
If the student’s in-school behavior indicates possible substance<br />
use the following steps will be followed:<br />
