Rice not only in compliance with RA 8976<br />
but in combating the alarming prevalence<br />
of Iron deficiency anemia and its<br />

<strong>NFA</strong> Catanduanes ensures<br />
agency’s visibility<br />
<strong>NFA</strong> Catanduanes ensured the<br />
visibility of the agency through regular<br />
monitoring and inspection of grains<br />
establishments and other <strong>NFA</strong><br />
accredited outlets.<br />
For the month of May, the<br />
provincial office extended hauling<br />
assistance to farmers stocks sold to <strong>NFA</strong>.<br />
Provincial Manager Oscar SG. Tubalinal<br />
accompanied by three staff graced Pres.<br />
Benigno S. Aquino III’s visit to<br />
Catanduanes last May 5.<br />
In coordination with LGU-San<br />
Andres, the branch conducted Farmers’<br />
Assembly to discuss policies and<br />
guidelines on grains procurement and<br />
other programs of the agency.<br />
In connection with the<br />
celebration of Heritage Month, four<br />
pairs of employees rendered Pantomina<br />
dance during the Center for<br />
Catandungan Heritage, Inc. 2 nd Gawad<br />
Kultura: Pagtaong Ondra held at Virac<br />
Sports Center last May 19.<br />
Employees together with <strong>NFA</strong><br />
stakeholders attended briefing on<br />
Gender and Development (GAD) last<br />
May 22. The provincial office also sent<br />
letter-reminder to LGU-Bato about their<br />
statement of account as of April 12 for<br />
the rice loan availed of by the<br />
municipality last February and December<br />
2011.<br />
For the month of June, the<br />
branch donated to the gift-giving project<br />
of Mutya ng Virac, Inc. It also hosted the<br />
2 nd quarterly meeting of the Regional<br />
Farmers Action Council (RFAC) last June<br />
5 and the PROMANCOM meeting last<br />
June 21.<br />
<strong>NFA</strong> employees joined the<br />
Linggo ng Kalikasan parade with the theme<br />
“Sa Turismo at Kalikasan Nakasalalay<br />
ang Matatag na Kinabukasan.” They<br />
participated in the tree planting activity<br />
at Oguis, Bato where they planted 70<br />
upland and mangrove trees.<br />
The office also approved the<br />
request of the Department of Social<br />
Welfare and Development (DSWD) and<br />
the Bureau of Jail Management and<br />
Penology (BJMP) to purchase rice for<br />
distribution/consumption.<br />
Meanwhile, the office<br />
continued with its advocacy campaign on<br />
iron-fortified rice at selected elementary<br />
and high schools at 11 municipalities in<br />
the province.<br />
After one year, six months, and<br />
twenty-two days, RD Tomas R. Escarez<br />
formally handed over the key of<br />
responsibility to RD Ruben J. Reside. A<br />
gesture that he is relinquishing his duties<br />
and responsibilities to the new chief during<br />
the turnover ceremony on May 21,<br />
following a chain of executive promotions<br />
and transfers that was effected in the middle<br />
of the same month.<br />
Director Escarez left Iloilo to take<br />
charge of Region IV, where he started his<br />
journey in <strong>NFA</strong>. On the other hand,<br />
Director Reside had been handling Region<br />
II for three years prior to this new<br />
assignment.<br />
In his message, RD Tom recounted<br />
his humble beginnings climbing up the<br />
ladder of success. He narrated his sacrifices<br />
and stressed the importance of hard work<br />
and determination in pursuing his dreams.<br />
His story is meant to inspire the new and<br />
young employees to cultivate the same<br />
values.<br />
RD Ben said that this will be his<br />
first time to be assigned outside Luzon. He<br />
also expressed his delight that people in his<br />
previous post were congratulating him as<br />
he will be going to paradise - Boracay.<br />
Furthermore, he exhorted the personnel to<br />
accomplish assigned tasks with honesty.<br />
The employees in the region were<br />
both sad and excited during the occasion.<br />
Sad that a great man is leaving and excited<br />
that an extraordinary man will be leading.<br />
The turnover ceremony was held<br />
at the region’s training center and was<br />
followed by a luncheon specially prepared<br />
by the region’s staff for the two directors.<br />
