The success and positive<br />

results of the Regional Conference and<br />

Workshop on Rice Fortification held in<br />

Regions 5, 6 and 9 funded by the United<br />

Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)<br />

encouraged <strong>NFA</strong> management to<br />

duplicate similar activity nationwide<br />

using its corporate funds.<br />

Adjacent regions were joined<br />

together totaling to six the number of<br />

conferences held nationwide from April<br />

to June <strong>2012</strong>. <strong>NFA</strong> facilities were used<br />

in the conduct of the conference except<br />

in those areas where there are no<br />

training facilities.<br />

The regional conference of<br />

NCR and Region 3 was held at the Food<br />

Development Center in Taguig; Region 4<br />

in <strong>NFA</strong>-Batangas; Regions 7 & 8 and the<br />

provincial offices of Basilan, Tawi-Tawi<br />

and Sulu at <strong>NFA</strong>-Cebu; Region 10 and<br />

CARAGA and the provincial office of<br />

Lanao del Sur in Balay Mindanao in<br />

the severe malnutrition problem in the<br />

area. A total of 25 children aged zero to<br />

seven years old including ten pregnant<br />

women and 19 breastfeeding mothers<br />

in Barangay Morocborocan and 21<br />

children aged zero to seven years old in<br />

Buenavista with six pregnant women<br />

and 34 breastfeeding mothers are<br />

expected to benefit from this feeding<br />

program. The beneficiaries will be given<br />

a one-day meal served with I-Rice for<br />

while nutrition updates, iron deficiency<br />

anemia, status of the Rice Fortification<br />

Program in the areas of production and<br />

technology, marketing and distribution,<br />

advocacy and promotions were<br />

discussed. As an output, each provincial<br />

office was asked to prepare an action<br />

plan for implementation in their<br />

respective areas until December of this<br />
