Die <strong>Frau</strong> des Anarchisten THE ANARCHIST’S WIFE<br />
Over a million people lost their lives <strong>in</strong> the Spanish Civil War, two million were taken prisoner<br />
and half a million expulsed from Spa<strong>in</strong>. Set dur<strong>in</strong>g these harrow<strong>in</strong>g years between Franco’s putsch<br />
and the end of World War II, this is the story of a couple and their undy<strong>in</strong>g love. Lawyer Justo<br />
Calderón is a glow<strong>in</strong>g Republican who fights Franco both <strong>in</strong> the trenches and on the radio as the<br />
"Voice of the Revolution." His elegant young wife Manuela is spoiled, non-political, but a lov<strong>in</strong>g<br />
mother to their daughter Paloma and <strong>in</strong>tensely <strong>in</strong> love with her husband. The young family<br />
undergoes all the horrors of the Civil War, all the pa<strong>in</strong> of betrayal, imprisonment and torture, all<br />
the anguish of separation. When Franco’s troops w<strong>in</strong>, Manuela loses all contact with Justo. Alone,<br />
without money, she and Paloma struggle to survive. Yet Manuela never gives up believ<strong>in</strong>g that<br />
she will f<strong>in</strong>d Justo aga<strong>in</strong> one day. In her tireless search for her husband, she sees a photo <strong>in</strong> a<br />
magaz<strong>in</strong>e article on former concentration camp prisoners and becomes conv<strong>in</strong>ced that it is Justo.<br />
Her search now takes on a new urgency …<br />

Marie Noëlle and Peter Sehr have been work<strong>in</strong>g together s<strong>in</strong>ce 1979, when Marie Noëlle began edit<strong>in</strong>g<br />
and writ<strong>in</strong>g many of Peter Sehr’s <strong>films</strong>. In 1988, they founded P’Artisan Filmproduktion and together they<br />
have co-directed Und nicht e<strong>in</strong> Tohuwabohu (1988) and The Anarchist’s Wife (Die <strong>Frau</strong><br />
des Anarchisten, 2008). Her other <strong>films</strong> <strong>in</strong>clude: Ich erzaehle mir e<strong>in</strong>en Mann (1995), Komm<br />
doch an den Tisch (1998), U-Store It, U-Lock It, U-Keep the Key (2001), 30 años al<br />
