When the sim arose they threw it out of their house<br />
of misfortune, in order that it may be tortured by the rays<br />
of the sun, and that torture was its vivificati<strong>on</strong> and "Think<br />
not of those, who are slain in the way of Allah,<br />
as dead.<br />
Nay, they are living. With their Lord they have provisi<strong>on</strong>;<br />
jubilant [are they] because of that which Allah hath bestowed<br />
up<strong>on</strong> them of His bounty/<br />
If the bats knew how much kindness they had d<strong>on</strong>e<br />
to the chamele<strong>on</strong> by that punishment and what defect<br />
they have by loss of its pleasure they would have died out<br />

Once a hoopoo <strong>on</strong> his way, fell am<strong>on</strong>gst the fairies, and<br />
alighted in their nest. 'The hoopoo<br />

keen-sighteclness. purblind; as the story of<br />
their states is well-known to the Arabs. The hoopoo passed<br />
the night in their nest and they asked all sorts of news from<br />
him.<br />
In the morning the hoopoo prepared to depart and<br />
decided to leave. The fairies said: U O wretch, what is this<br />
