If they are subject to a care order then the local authority shares parental responsibility with the parent(s)
and decides where the child should live. Children in care are cared for in a number of settings including
foster homes, children’s homes and residential schools.
b) Proximity measured as a straight line from home address to any of the following points
(using Ordnance Survey eastings and northings as appropriate):
i) 519,739 / 300328 the Thomas Deacon Academy [seed point]
ii) 520,558.595/ 300,036.383 (the old Hereward Community College seed point)
iii) 519,884.795/ 301,620.983 (the old John Mansfield School seed point)
Notes
Testing will be carried out by the academy in the autumn. It is not an entrance test and is only used to
allocate a child to a particular band. By taking 33 from each band, the academy is guaranteed to have
the full spread of abilities in each year group.
Thomas Deacon Academy does not operate a catchment area.
The sibling criterion does not apply to Thomas Deacon Academy.
Parents who are considering applying for a place for children born outside the appropriate school year
must discuss the situation with the principal before submitting the application.
If the academy has more applications than places available, parents may elect to place their child’s name
on a waiting list. Pupils will be placed on the waiting list in strict order according to the oversubscription
criteria on the admissions policy. If a place becomes available at the academy, places will be allocated
according to these criteria.
The waiting list will be held from the allocation of places until the Easter of Year 11. Parents will be
asked by the local authority to contact the academy to request that their child’s name is placed on the
waiting list.
Please note that children who are the subject of a direction by the local authority to admit or who are
allocated a place in accordance with a fair access protocol will take preference over those on the waiting
list.
