Anna Holmes Greene [B ’63, mathematics<br />

Poteet (Texas) School District.<br />
Kay Ivey [B ’67, speech communications education]<br />
was elected Alabama’s 30th lieutenant governor<br />
in November 2010. She previously served<br />
as state treasurer, and as director <strong>of</strong> government<br />
affairs and communications for the Alabama<br />
Commission on Higher <strong>Education</strong>. Ivey is a past<br />
member <strong>of</strong> the college’s National Advisory Council,<br />
and its 2005 Keystone Leader-in-Residence.<br />
Linda “Lynn” Bowen Pearson [B ’64, social<br />
science education] is president <strong>of</strong> The Reading &<br />
Math Center Inc., in Birmingham, Ala.<br />
Donald Rooks [B ’62, health and physical<br />
education; M ‘63, education administration]<br />
is president <strong>of</strong> Rooks <strong>Education</strong>al Services in<br />
Marietta, Ga. He received the Georgia School<br />
Boards Association’s highest award, the Friend <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Education</strong> Award, in 2009.<br />
Jane Schulz [B ’66, elementary education; D<br />
’71, mental retardation], who recently retired as a<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essor emerita <strong>of</strong> Western Carolina <strong>University</strong><br />
after 20 years <strong>of</strong> teaching, has published Grown<br />
Man Now, which describes the challenges and<br />
joys <strong>of</strong> being the parent <strong>of</strong> a child with Down<br />
syndrome. She has also co-authored numerous<br />
academic textbooks, book chapters and journal<br />
articles on teaching children with disabilities,<br />
including “Mainstreaming Exceptional Students:<br />
A Guide for Classroom Teachers,” which is considered<br />
a landmark text in the field.<br />
Melinda Knowles Waid [B ’66, elementary<br />
education] retired after working as a school<br />
counselor for Carroll County (Ga.) Schools.<br />

Martha Lynn Gardner Baker [B ’75, early<br />
childhood education] retired from Cherokee<br />
County (Ala.) Schools in June 2010 after 33 years<br />
as a second-grade teacher in Alabama.<br />
Pamela Goodwin Farley [B ’76, English<br />
