as comm<strong>and</strong>er-in-chief of the United States Pacific Fleet. Ceremonies<br />

pay tribute to Admiral Howard. U. S. S. San Diego becomes<br />

Major General George W. Goethals, builder of the <strong>Panama</strong> Canal<br />

visits <strong>Panama</strong>-<strong>California</strong> Exposition. Reception by President<br />

17. Lieut. Walter Taliaferro establishes a new American systained<br />

flight record; remains aloft 9 hours <strong>and</strong> 48 minutes.<br />

18. “Marine Day” at the Exposition. Dancing in the evening at Organ<br />

Pavilion. Music by Marine <strong>and</strong> Coast Artillery B<strong>and</strong>s.
