At the end of the year Companies C, F, G <strong>and</strong> K, were at Leavenworth;<br />

A at Fort Scott; B at Fort Atkinson; D at Camp BoBone, near Beatties<br />

Prairie; E <strong>and</strong> H in camp near Evansville, A rk.; <strong>and</strong> I at Fort Des Moines.<br />

The Headquarters of the regiment were at St. Louis, where they remained<br />

until April 28, 1846, when they were returned to Fort Leavenwox’th.<br />

Colonel Kearny was promoted brigadier general June 30, 1846, <strong>and</strong><br />

was succeeded by Colonel Mason. Major Wharton was promoted vice<br />

Lieutenant Colonel Mason, <strong>and</strong> Captain Trenor vice Wharton.<br />

From the year 1847 when regimental headquarters were still at Leavenworth<br />

until 1906 when the regiment left the department of Texas for<br />

temporary duty at San Francisco, <strong>California</strong>, the First Cavalry participated<br />

in the following battles <strong>and</strong> skirmishes: Mexican War fourteen;<br />

Civil War, one hundred twelve; Indian engagement one hundred seventythree;<br />

Spanish-American War three; Insurrection in Philippines Isl<strong>and</strong>s,<br />

thirty-one. Then the regiment except Troop “K” marched to Austin,<br />

Texas, <strong>and</strong> in July 1906 participated in the exercises at the camp of instructions,<br />

near that place, returning in September, 1906 to its proper<br />

station.<br />

RECORD OF EVENTS 1914<br />

On January 1, 1914, the station of the troops of the regiment was as<br />

follows: Headquarters <strong>and</strong> B<strong>and</strong>, 1st <strong>and</strong> 3rd Squadrons at the Presidio of<br />

Monterey, <strong>California</strong>; 2nd Squadron <strong>and</strong> Machine Gun Platoon at Fort<br />

Yellowstone, Wyoming.<br />

Troop M left its station April 18th for duty in the Yosemite National<br />

<strong>Park</strong>; marched to Wawona, <strong>California</strong>, <strong>and</strong> was ordered to return to its<br />

proper station. The troop rejoined post on May 8th having marched 450<br />

miles.<br />

Troop D left post on April 20th <strong>and</strong> Troop L on April 24th, by rail for<br />

duty on the Mexican border, taking station at Calexico, <strong>California</strong>, on<br />

April 21st <strong>and</strong> 25th, respectively.<br />

The machine Gun Platoon left Fort Yellowstone, Wyoming, on April<br />

30th for duty at Calexico, joining that place on May 8th.<br />

Troop B was on duty at the Camp of Instruction, Paciac Grove, <strong>California</strong>,<br />

June 20th to July 26th.<br />

The 2nd Squadron left Fort Yellowstone, Wyoming, on July 3rd, <strong>and</strong><br />

arrived <strong>and</strong> took station at the Presidio of Monterey, July 9th.<br />

Troops A, B, K <strong>and</strong> M left the Presidio of Monterey, <strong>California</strong>, on<br />

August 1st, for duty on the Mexican border, <strong>and</strong> embarked on the Transport<br />

Buford same date. Arrived at San Diego, <strong>California</strong>, August 3rd.<br />

Troops A, B, K left that place on August 5th <strong>and</strong> took station the same<br />

date at San Ysidro, <strong>California</strong>.<br />

Troop M left San Diego, August 5th <strong>and</strong> marched to Tecate. <strong>California</strong>,<br />

arriving August 6th.<br />

On August 27th, Troops A <strong>and</strong> K left San Ysidi'o, marching to Calexico<br />

to exchange stations with Troops D <strong>and</strong> L. Arrived at Calexico,<br />

September 3rd; distance marched 123 miles. On September 4th, Troops<br />

D <strong>and</strong> L left Calexico for San Ysidi'o, arriving on September 9th.<br />

The Machine Gun Platoon was relieved from duty at Calexico, <strong>California</strong>,<br />

September 5th, <strong>and</strong> proceeded by rail to Presidio of Monterey,<br />

<strong>California</strong>, arriving September 6th.<br />

Troop I left post October 4th, by marching, for temporary duty at<br />

Presidio of San Francisco, furnishing mounts <strong>and</strong> orderlies for the annual<br />

test ride, <strong>and</strong> rejoined its proper station on October 29th; distance marched<br />

291 miles.
