Undergraduate medical degree
There are 59 medical colleges and 14 dental colleges in the country to offer bachelor's degree
in medicine (MBBS) and dentistry (BDS). Of the 59 medical colleges, 17 are under the MOHFW,
one under Bangladesh Armed Forces and 41 are in the private sector. Of the 14 dental
colleges, 3 are under MOHFW and 11 are in the private sector. The medical colleges currently
have capacity of annual admission 5,549 students for MBBS course. These include 2,494 seats
in medical colleges under MOHFW, 100 seats in Armed Forces Medical College and 3,055
seats in private medical colleges. Out of these seats in medical colleges under MOHFW, 40
seats are reserved for children of freedom fighters, 20 for tribal students and 84 for foreign
students.
