Hatfield Heath Rainfall January 2010
10th
Fourteen raindays in January 2010 produced
only 1.76 inches, which is 69% of January
average. With November and December
2009 rainfalls well above average, we were
due for a dry January 2010. This did not
mean we were not to have some snowdays,
as last months magazine photographs
showed.
1995 - 5.35 inches
2004 - 3.96 inches
2006 - 0.76 inches
GARDEN WATCH
/Kitchen Watch
January temperatures were well below average both
in the village and nationally.
During the month, we had the house insulated - roof
& cavity walls - what a difference it made, both in
terms of higher temperatures and better heat retention.
We had a COMMA
butterfly (Polygonia c-
album) hibernating with us,
who appreciated the rise in
temperature and is now
active in the kitchen!!
LONG-TAILED TITS
(Aegithalidae)
I notice your article in the magazine about someone
seeing the Redwing in their garden.
A few days ago I saw approx 5 long tailed tits in our
garden.
