loan was in cash and triple the amount of the principal, if the<br />

loan was in kind.<br />

Arrangement for grazing grounds for the cattle in each<br />

and every village was made. Those who encroached upon the<br />

grazing grounds would be severely dealt with. Trees were<br />

planted on either side of the road for the convenience of the<br />

pedestrians. Those who cut down the trees would be severely<br />

dealt with. He also introduced new titles as Kazi, Sardar, Khardar,<br />

etc. Corrupt officials would be given severe punishment.<br />

Ram Shah was famous for justice. He improved the trade and<br />

commerce of the country by bringing merchants from Patan.- He<br />

also brought new lands under cultivation. In this way he brought<br />

about peace and prosperity in the country.<br />

Like Siddhi Nara Singh, he was religious minded and had<br />

an ascetic bent of mind. On occasions he fasted and practised<br />

penance. He could wield weapons of various kinds with ease and<br />

was well-versed in war tactics. Himself a scholar, he respected<br />

the scholars in his palace. His palace was graced by Lakhan<br />

Thapa, the famous Magar sage. Towards the last part of his life<br />

he abdicated himself in favour of his son Dambar Shah and led<br />

an ascetic life and in 1633 A.D. he died at the confluence of<br />

Marshyandi and Daroudi.<br />

The successors of Ram hSah<br />

After the death of Rama Shah his son Dambar Shah<br />

became king of Gorkha. After Dambar Shah, Krishna Shah,<br />

Rudra Shah and Prithbipati Shah ascended the throne of Gor<br />

kha in succession. Prithbipati Shah was a weak ruler. Taking<br />

advantage of this, Lamjung attacked Gorkha and occupied some<br />

pf its territories. Those lost territories could, however, be<br />

reconquered by a clever stroke of diplomacy of RanaduUa Shah,<br />
