Politically <strong>Nepal</strong> has a chequered career. It saw the rise<br />
and fall of many dynasties. The first dynasty whose mention<br />
is found in the chronicles of <strong>Nepal</strong> is the Gopal dynasty i.e.<br />
the dynasty of Cowherds. After the Gopal dynasty<br />
comes the<br />
Ahir dynasty. But much light has not yet been thrown on<br />
these two dynasties. Extensive research work is needed before<br />
detailed and authentic accounts of these dynasties can be given.<br />
The Kirant dynasty also ruled over <strong>Nepal</strong> for a pretty long time.<br />
The Kirant dynasty was, however, superseded by the Soma<br />
dynasty which, in its turn, was superseded by the Lichchhavi<br />
dynasty The Lichchhavi dynasty is supposed to be the golden<br />
period in the history of <strong>Nepal</strong>. The rise of ihe Malla dynasty is<br />
another landmark in the history of <strong>Nepal</strong>. Under the fostering<br />
care and patronage of the Malla Kings, <strong>Nepal</strong>ese arts and ar<br />
chitecture developed a lot The Malla dynasty weakened by<br />
internal strife and torn by hatred and jealousy and intrigues<br />
of the Malla rulers of the petty kingdoms of Kathmandu,<br />
Bhaktapur and Lalitpur also owing to the betrayal of the com<br />
manders and the short sightedness of the Malla rulers suc<br />
cumbed to the invasion of the Shah King Prithbi Narayan Shah<br />
