MID-SOUTH CONFERENCE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK<br />
Matt Rich (Belhaven/Offensive), Gabe Guthrie (Georgetown/Defensive) and Hunter Meade (Cumberlands/Special<br />
Teams) have been named this weeks Mid-South Conference Players of the Week in football.<br />
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK<br />
Belhaven quarterback Matt Rich is the MSC Offensive Player of the Week. The 6’3 senior from Cumming, Georgia<br />
threw a school-record six touchdowns in the Blazers 55-43 victory over Texas <strong>College</strong>. Rich fi nished the day completing<br />
19 of 27 passes for 358 yards. Matt also ran for two additional touchdowns for the Blazers, now 1-2 on the season.<br />
Belhaven will open Mid-South Conference play next weekend at 6:30 p.m. when they host NAIA #6 Bethel <strong>College</strong>.<br />
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK<br />
The MSC Defensive Player of the Week comes from NAIA #9 Georgetown <strong>College</strong>. Gabe Guthrie, a 6’1 senior linebacker<br />
from Xenia, Ohio recorded 14 total tackles (11 solo) in the Tigers 63-3 win over MSC foe Cumberland University<br />
(TN). Gabe also tallied four sacks in just under three quarters of action for the Tigers (1-1). Up next for the Tigers will be<br />
a visit to undefeated and #13 ranked Virginia-Wise for a 1:30 p.m. Mid-South <strong>game</strong>.<br />
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK<br />
Junior kicker Hunter Meade of the University of the Cumberlands is the MSC Special Teams Player of the Week.<br />
Meade, a 5’11 native of Bristol, Virginia, was successful on both his point after attempts during the Patriots 35-17 loss<br />
against NCAA DII Mars Hill <strong>College</strong>. Meade also nailed a 26 yard fi eld goal, his only attempt of the <strong>game</strong>. The nationally<br />
recognized Cumberlands (2-1) will be at home this coming weekend as they host WVU Tech in a MSC divisional <strong>game</strong>.<br />
Only two players have amassed 800-<br />
plus receiving yards in a season with<br />
Jim Maynor’s 805 in 2000 being the<br />
other.<br />
