University 23-13 Saturday.Pollock’s (Orange Park, Fla.) fi rst carry of the day was one for thehighlight reel as he galloped 97 yards for a touchdown on Union’sfi rst play from scrimmage. After the PAT, Union led 7-0 with 10:02remaining in the fi rst.The 97-yard run is the longest run in Pollock’s career. Prior to thisseason, Pollock had not had a run longer than 26 yards. Howver, hehad a 33-yard run in the win at Lambuth (Tenn.) Universty on Sept.6 and now a 97-yard gallop.Pollock’s long sprint is close to the longest run in Bulldog history, but Dayna Overton had 99-yard touchdown run against Tiffi n (Ohio)University in 1998.The junior running back fi nished the day with 198 yards on 20carries, just 16 yards shy of James Fletcher’s single-game record of214, which he set against Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1985.As a team, Union rushed for 334 yards. The Bulldogs entered thegame with 274 rushing yards. Union only rushed for more than 200yards once in 2007 (214 versus Campbellsville (Ky.) University onOct. 13, 2007). The last time Union ran for more than 300 yardscame in a 57-27 win over Bethel (Tenn.) College on Oct. 11, 2003,as the Bulldogs amassed 377 yards on the ground.Union outgained Faulkner 517-167 in total offense. Mike Brinkley(Anthony, Fla.) completed 12-of-30 passes for 183 yards. He hadone interception, but it came just prior to the half and didn’t amountto anything. Darrell Taylor (Louisville, Ky.) helped out with 48 yardsrushing on six carries, while Chris Thomas (Hopkinsville, Ky.) caughtthree passes for 66 yards and ran for 33 yards on one carry.Freshman Jacob Appleby (Harvest, Ala.) tied a school record withthree fi eld goals as he accounted for 11 points in the 10-point victory.Appleby connected on fi eld goals of 22 and 34 yards in the fi rsthalf as Union built a 13-0 lead with 10:55 left in the half.Just before the half, Faulkner cracked scoring column just beforethe half when Phillip Moore scampered 21 yards for a touchdownwith 46 seconds on the clock, making it 13-7 at the half. With 2:26 to go in the third, Appleby booted another 22-yard fi eldgoal to up the margin to 16-7.Union appeared to be on its way to extend its lead early the fourthas it had the ball fi rst and 10 on the Faulkner 15. Twice the Bulldogsgot the ball into the end zone only to have the play nullifi ed by apenalty. Facing fourth and 31 at the Faulkner 36, Union punted andpinned the Eagles on their 12-yard line.Faulkner turned the ball over on downs on its own 16, and Pollockscored on the very next play to put Union up 23-7 with 6:23remaining.On the ensuing drive, Faulkner marched 64 yards in nine plays fora touchdown. Moore hit Josh Cooper for an 8-yard pass. The Eagleswent for two on the PAT, but the run failed to leave the score 23-13with 4:09 left.SCORE BY QUARTERSUNION 0 14 10 3 -27FAULKNER 7 0 0 14 -21SCORING SUMMARY1st - UC - Pollock 97 run (Appleby kick)UC - Appleby 22 FG2nd - UC - Appleby 34 FGFU - Moore 214 run (Corder kick)3rd - UC - Appleby 22 FG4th - UC - Pollock 16 run (Appleby kick)FU - Cooper 8 pass from Moore (Jones rush failed)TEAM STATS UC FUFirst Downs 22 11Rushes-Yards 42-334 26-58Passing Yards 183 109Passes (C-A-I) 12-30-1 12-38-0Total Offense Plays-Yards 72-517 64-167Punts-Average 8-25.4 10-38.7Fumbles-Lost 0-0 1-0Penalties-Yards 7-75 7-59Time of Possession 31:29 28:31Third-Down Conversions 4 of 16 3 of 15Fourth-Down Conversions 0 of 1 0 of 2Sacks By-Yards 2-21 2-11UNIONRUSHING Att Gain Lost Net TD LgPollock 20 212 14 198 2 97D.
