8.1.3 AC Distribution Panel
The distribution panels for both AC and DC power are
located in the aft cabin.
8.1.4 Battery Charger (Option)
The boat’s batteries are normally charged whenever the
engines are running. If you are docked for an extended
period of time, operating DC devices and equipment will
drain the power from the batteries. Unless the batteries
are kept charged, they may not have enough power to
start the engine when you need them.
The battery charger (Fig. 8.6) will automatically charge
the engine batteries when the power supply is through
the AC system. The battery charger breaker is at the AC
Distribution Panel.
Leaving the battery charger on whenever AC power is
available is a good idea. It will keep the batteries fully
charged. After the batteries are recharged, it provides
a maintenance or trickle charge as needed. The battery
charger is under the chart table. Refer to the manufacture’s
owner’s manual for operating procedures.
8.1.4.1 Basic Battery Charger Operation Procedure
1. Connect shore power cable to power AC Panel and
turn on the AC Main breaker.
2. Turn “Battery Charger” breaker to the “ON” position.
Note: It is not necessary to turn on the “House/Start”
battery switch to provide charging power to the batteries.
1. Check sea strainer and open engine raw water seacock.
2. Turn battery selector switch to the #1 position.
3. Start engine. (Follow starting instructions in the
“Engine Manual”)
4. Turn battery selector switch to both to charge all batteries
8.1.6 Water Heater (Option)
! CAUTION !
Be certain the water heater is full of water and does
not contain air. If the water heater is not full of water,
damage to the heating elements may result when
electrical power is turned on to the unit.
The water heater use and function is described in the
Water Systems Section.
The water heater is powered by the AC Distribution
Panel. It is much the same as an electric water heater in
your home except in this case, the heater uses 120 volt
(220 overseas), but it uses elements to heat the water
to a specified temperature. Consult the manufacturer’s
documentation for any internal information about the
water heater.
8.1.7 Microwave (Option)
The inverter automatically tranfers shore power to the
AC panel when shore power cable is connected and
dockside power is present at AC panel bypassing the
invert mode capabilities.
The circuit breakers for the battery chargers are located
on the AC Distribution Panel.
