Accept with appreciation the donation of $300.00 to the Hanover Township Public Schools Kathryn Moser Music Endowment Fund, from Tamara Moser. Discussion: Mr. Pepper acknowledged the donation from Tamara, Kathy’s daughter, and expressed his appreciation for all she has done for the fund. Moved: Mr. Duva Second: Mrs. Linfante Roll Call: 9 yes, 0 no 2. Accept with appreciation the grant donation of $2,000.00 from 3M Foundation to Memorial Junior School for the Technology/Robotics Club. Approve amending the date of the October Regular Board of Education Meeting from Tuesday, October 25, 2011 to Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Moved: Mr. Duva Second: Mrs. Linfante Roll Call: 9 yes, 0 no X. PUBLIC COMMENTS - Mr. Cahill asked if there were any public comments. Hearing none he closed this portion of the meeting. XI. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION Sale of Land – Mrs. Wolsky said an area developer interested in purchasing property adjacent to Calais and property adjacent to Mountview Road recently approached the District. The land would have to be put up for public sale but a number of steps would have to be followed before getting to that point. The first step is to get approval from the Department of Education to dispose of the land, which requires passing a resolution stating that the land is no longer needed for school purposes. The Board looked at pictures of the property and discussion followed concerning whether or not this land would be needed for school purposes in the future. It was determined that the land adjacent to Calais is not usable by the District but the Board asked for additional clarification before passing a resolution regarding the Mountview Road property. 20
The following motion was made: The Hanover Township Board of Education deems the property identified on the Tax Map of Hanover Township as Block 7502 Lot 10 is no longer needed for school purposes and authorizes the Business Administrator/Board Secretary to submit a written request to the Department of Education for approval of disposal. Moved: Mr. Furda Second: Mr. Azzarello Roll Call: 9 yes, 0 no Field Trip Survey – Mr. Pepper reviewed a survey that was sent out asking parents if they would feel comfortable contributing to the cost of field trips. 210 parents responded and the overwhelming majority indicated they would be willing to contribute. The survey also asked parents for additional comments and many added that they would be willing to help pay provided the field trips were meaningful. Mr. Pepper said the Board now has to decide if they are willing to ask parents to contribute and how much they are comfortable asking for. Based on the survey responses, $15 per trip was suggested. Mr. Cahill asked how many trips each class typically takes. Mr. Pepper said they each usually take 2 trips per year but we should consider making it 1 quality trip per grade. Mrs. Linfante asked when we would be asking parents to make this contribution. Mr. Pepper said at the time the trip is scheduled. Mr. Furda questioned whether this was going to lead into asking parents to contribute to athletic activities. Mr. Pepper said the Board discussed Pay to Play at budget time and decided instead to roll back clubs and intramural sports. He also indicated that we are one of few school districts that don’t ask parents to pay for trips. Mrs. Slattery asked if a quality trip could be provided for $15 and if it was more costly, would the District absorb the additional cost. Mr. Pepper said the trip would have to be within the limit. The following motion was made: Approve asking parents/guardians to contribute to the cost of field trips at an amount not to exceed $20 per trip.
