WORKSHOP
w e l c o m e
Welcome to the first edition of Bike Business.
We’re a team at Bike Business and we’ve been working together on trade magazines for years; we’ve worked on
trade magazines for machine tooling and other industries, and on a magazine which is quite similar to Bike Business but
for the automotive aftermarket.
That’s when we realised that there was nothing that specifically serviced the trade side of the bike business.
Workshops and retailers seemed to lack a publication that could advise them of what was new – not the glamour side of
the bike business with stories on Moto GPs and road tests, but the nuts and bolts of the industry.
Likewise there was nothing to give the importers, manufacturers and distributors of parts, accessories, tools and
equipment a voice to communicate with the workshops and retailers.
So this is it – Bike Business.
Now we’re in your hands, in more ways than one. Bike Business is as much your voice in the industry as it is ours.
Without your input it won’t work the way it should.
So let us know what’s new in your world and we’ll tell the rest of the bike world. Let us know what you’d like to see in
the magazine and we will try to accommodate it.
Just one final thing, this is a bi-monthly trade magazine, you won’t find it at newsagents it’s not meant for the public.
If you want a copy and you’re not getting one then contact Janene Champion at Bike Business and she will make it
happen. Likewise if you have industry news, or information on new products, new techniques, new equipment then
drop me an email, make that phone call, send me that fax.
We all look forward to working with you in the Bike Business.
Hyosung Sales Growth
Hyosung was the fastest growing
motorcycle marque in Australia last year,
recording a massive 103.7 percent
increase in sales compared with 2005
according to the company.
With 2196 units retailed in 2006,
Hyosung - which came under the
ownership of the Melbourne-based PS
Importers on April 1 last year - is now
the eighth biggest seller of on-road
motorcycles in Australia.
Hyosung’s astonishing result came
on the strength of an outstanding year
for the GT250R. A total of 878 GT250Rs
were sold in 2006 - a 354.9 per cent
increase on 2005. The GT250R was
also the seventh biggest seller in the entire
road bike market.
The GV250 Aquila cruiser also
performed with distinction in the 250cc
category (359 units), while the 650cc
family - the GT650R, GT650, GT650S
Tourer and GV650 Aquila - kept sales
on the boil. “This is a fantastic result for
Hyosung,” said PS Importers’ Marketing
Manager, Mark Fattore.
“We knew that we were onto a good
thing with Hyosung from the start, but
the response from the marketplace has
simply been overwhelming.
The sales figures were collated by
research group ERG International for
the Federal Chamber of Automotive
Industries.
Sales strong in Australia
With the second half of the year
encompassing the traditional seasonal
spike in motorcycle sales through
the September quarter, the Australian
annual motorcycle market is well on
track to eclipse 130,000 units for the
first time.
The scooter market has continued
to grow, with sales rising 8.2 percent to
7156 to the end of June.
Bolwell scooters maintained market
leadership for the first half of the year
(17.4 percent), Yamaha scooters (13.1
percent) held onto second place, and
Bug scooters (13 percent) come in
just behind at third. Vespa captured
10.8 percent of the market, with Honda
catching 10.5 percent.
Yamaha led the off-road market in
the first half of 2007 with 33 percent
share, ahead of Honda with 30.3
percent. Suzuki was third with 11.8
percent and Kawasaki claimed 9
percent. Honda dominated the road
bike market with 21.1 percent share,
followed by Harley-Davidson with
Naked Streetfighter
Last time naked bike fans saw a new
Honda CB600 Hornet land on Australian
shores was more than five years ago, so
followers of the pared down sportbike
- powered by the legendary “RR” series
engine - will be thrilled to learn the mid
size Hornet is returning.
The CB600F Hornet has riveting new
looks and performance with a totally new
engine and chassis.
A close blood cousin of the race-ready
CBR600RR, the latest release Hornet
focuses on sharper, more responsive
handling through the pursuit of lighter
weight everywhere including an engine
that is five kilograms lighter than before.
Attention was also paid to giving the
new Hornet quicker and more easily
manageable handling. This was achieved
by carefully calculating precisely where
that weight should be trimmed, or moved,
to gain the most responsive, easiesthandling
riding control.
A pre-production example of the Hornet
made its first public appearance at the
Australian Motorcycle Expo in Brisbane
The bike will be on Honda Dealer
showroom floors around the first quarter
n e w s
of 2008, and details and specifications will
be available on the Honda motorcycles
website in the near future:
Bike Expo Heads South
Crowds flocked to the Brisbane
Convention and Exhibition to check out
the latest motorcycles, scooters, ATVS,
products and services at the Australian
Motorcycle Expo Brisbane.
The first of Australia’s three premier
motorcycle showcase events was
extremely well received by the public.
Organisers were greeted by large
crowds on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
mornings, eager to be the first to sample
new additions to the motorcycle market
for 2008, as well as interesting concept
machines and race models.
Harley-Davidson’s unique countdown
clock kept the crowd guessing until it lifted
the crates from over its new Fat Bob and
Rocker machines.
MV Agusta showed off the world’s most
expensive production motorcycle, the
F4CC, and BMW Motorrad added the HP2
Megamoto to its lineup, as well as two
new additions to the G 650 range.
Suzuki lifted the covers off its allnew
B-King, and the latest generation
Hayabusa. Triumph presented the Street
Triple, and Piaggio with its interesting
new MP3 Scooter. A highlight of the event
was undoubtedly the screening of Casey
Stoner’s MotoGP title win on the Western
QBE Stage and Screen on Sunday
afternoon.
Event Director Mark Petersen of
Exhibition and Trade Fairs said the public’s
response to the Australian Motorcycle
Expo Brisbane had been
very encouraging and
looked forward to further
success at the next
event in Melbourne from
October 5-7.
“We had another
year of great crowds at
Brisbane, people came
in their thousands and all
exhibitors were pleased
by the event,” said
Petersen.
The Australian Motorcycle Expo
Melbourne will be hosted by the
Melbourne Exhibition and Convention
Centre from October 5-7.
Even more model releases are
scheduled for the event, with a range of
manufacturers confirming their latest 2008
machines to be displayed. The event
then heads to New South Wales from
November 2-4 for the Sydney Motorcycle
Show, the final event on the calendar.
BMW Motorrads new G 650 models.
Building on the warm welcome Australians have given the new
generation BMW G 650 Xchallenge in the past six months, BMW
Motorrad Australia has added two further models to the range.
The BMW G 650 Xcountry and the BMW G 650 Xmoto both
came into the spotlight at the Brisbane Motorcycle show on
September 21, 2007.
Both models use the same powertrain as fitted to the BMW G
650 Xchallenge, and all offer the same high levels of durability
and longevity not to mention 10,000 km service intervals.
The liquid-cooled 652cc single cylinder engine delivers 39
kW (53hp) at 7000 rpm and 60 Nm of torque at 5250 rpm. Fuel
economy is impressive, giving more than 200 km between refills.
Just as with the BMW G 650 Xchallenge, the two new models
are driven by an O-ring chain.
The new bikes weigh less than 148 kg dry.
The bridge-type tubular steel frame with cast aluminium side
sections and bolted-on aluminium rear frame, together with the
light alloy cast rear-wheel swing arm ensure the machines remain
light on their wheels.
The BMW G 650 Xcountry is aimed at sport-oriented city
dwellers who break loose on Saturday and Sunday. The G 650
Xcountry is as much at home in the city as off the beaten track.
The BMW G 650 Xmoto is aimed at sporty, modern riders who
need a small, light bike that delivers superb agility as well as
outstanding handling for cutting through the twists and turns of
congested city streets, or twisty backroads.
The greatest differentiation outside the styling of the bodywork
is the suspension set up. Where the existing BMW G 650
Xchallenge uses a rear air shock, the BMW G 650 Xcountry and
BMW G 650 Xmoto feature a spring strut adjustable for length.
Differences in suspension geometry are ensured by the
spring travel, the size of the various wheels, as well as modified
mounting points for the front wheel.
The final drive ratio is specifically tailored to the purpose and
Hyosung new website
Hyosung Australia has an all-new
website, which can be found at
www.hyosung.com.au
Maintaining the striking visual impact of
the marque’s recently updated corporate
advertising and promotional material,
the website is a one-stop shop for
everything Hyosung, and includes in-depth
information on the model range.
There’s an easy-to-use dealer locator to
find one of Hyosung’s 55 national outlets.
Hyosung is one of the fastest growing
on-road motorcycle marques in Australia,
with sales until June this year totaling 1229
– a massive 143 percent increase on the
same period in 2006.
character of each individual model.
A further differentiation is in the wheels, whereby the BMW
G 650 Xmoto has 17-inch cast light-alloy rims, the BMW G 650
Xcountry has 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels.
The brake systems also differ, with the BMW G 650 Xmoto
fitted with a four-piston front brake calliper grabbing a 320 mm
disc, while the BMW G 650 Xcountry has the same single front
disc set up as the Xchallenge: a 300 mm disc, matched with a
double-piston brake calliper.
At the rear there is a 240 mm brake disc and floating-calliper.
As with most BMW models, Anti-Lock Brakes are available as an
option. Again reflecting the usual standard of BMW Motorrad,
the G 650 X models may also be customised by a wide range of
accessories and special features tailored to each model.
“These G 650 models are just the first of a range of new
exciting machines from BMW in the near future,” said Miles Davis,
Marketing Manager, BMW Motorrad Australia and New Zealand.
“Watch this space.”
On Yer Bike
It’s spring so hundreds of Victorian riders jump back on their bikes after a winter
break, and unfortunately this is associated with a spike in crashes during the start of
the warmer months.
In an effort to address this occurrence HART and local RoadSafe groups are again
holding their Annual Ride For Life event.
This year’s event will be held at Tullamarine on Sunday October 21st and at Kilsyth
on Sunday November 11th. Now in its seventh year at Tullamarine and second year at
Kilsyth, the event offers road safety information, discounts on training and protective
gear, and services for two-wheeled fans and enthusiasts.
Over 1500 people attended Ride For Life between HART’s two Melbourne Centres
in 2006. As well as partnering with local RoadSafe groups, participants this year will
include, McLeod Accessories, Draggin Jeans, Pirelli, and the No-Fear Honda Race
Teams. Honda will provide Motorcycle Service Workshops for those who want to learn
a bit more about their machines and how to prepare them. For more information,
Top Dog On Guard
In the old days the only way to protect
your motorcycle was a great big angry
dog tied up next to it.
Now with OnGuard locks you can go
one step better because while some other
brands of locks offer more bark than bite,
OnGuard makes the claim of being “Top
Dog”.
With a solid pedigree of innovation and
product design, OnGuard has rapidly risen
to be one of the top sports locks in the
kennel. In fact, eight out of 10 motorcycle
dealers in the US stock
OnGuard.
Leading the pack
means always being the
strongest, and OnGuard
has this covered with
the exclusive “Dual Lock
Down Protection” system.
This exclusive OnGuard
technology offers the
highest level of security against attack
from thieves. The double redundant
system secures both ends of the closure
to the lock body, creating a full circle of
protection that is impervious to pulling,
prying or cutting.
Usually the weakest part of the
package is the locking mechanism itself.
This is where OnGuard bites back using
designs such as a “Double Bolt” Locking
mechanism, “Quattro Bolt” for superior
strength, the “Dual Lock-Down Deadbolt”
mechanism and the “All-round cutprotected
locking insert”.
Even down to the keyhole, OnGuard
has it covered. Using its patent pending
“M-Cylinder”, the locking mechanism is
more reliable and user-friendly than ever.
The new key mechanism prevents the
key from being fully turned before being
inserted into the cylinder, eliminating the
problem of damaged keys or tumblers.
All Onguard locks come with five laser
cut keys. The main key includes a built
in micro-light which projects a highly
focused white light beam, the other four
have oversize grip pads for ease of use.
Taking inspiration from the meanest
dogs in the pack, OnGuard has named
its lock series after some familiar breeds
guaranteed to scare away even the
toughest criminal. Using
names such as “Doberman”
and “Rottweiler” for the
cables, “Mastiff” and “Beast”
for their chains, “Boxer” for
the disc locks and finally
the “Beast” for the premium
Onguard chain and lock
combo.
The Beast series chain
combos feature a massive 16mm (4/6”)
hardened ultra steel shackle, that holds
together the massive 11-14mm hex-link
chain with titanium reinforcement to
provide maximum cut resistance. These
are available in two lengths, 110cm or
160cm.
The Boxer 5048 series disc lock is the
perfect lock that can be carried in your
pocket, on your belt or in your underseat.
Featuring Quattro lock mechanisms with
Dual LockDown Protection you will be
hard pressed to find a stronger disc lock.
The lock is vinyl coated with rubber end
caps to prevent scratching and comes
with a disc lock reminder to prevent
accidental ride-off.
Also included is a pouch for storage of
the five keys.
The disc lock is available in black, or
yellow. For more information phone
affordable, durable, and rider installed.
All cruise controls have been
time tested over millions of miles by
thousands of riders.
These cruise controls are designed
to relieve hand and wrist fatigue. The
cruise control works by counteracting
the throttle spring tension. It is activated
with a simple flip of the thumb lever. This
gives you a positive speed control at any
setting with no throttle creep.
For safety’s sake the cruise control
can easily be overridden with a twist of
the hand or disengaged by flipping the
thumb lever up. At no time is the cruise
control locked on. All of these cruise
controls can be installed with no grip.
Braketech
The all-new AXIS Design extreme
performance rotors are here. These rotors
represent nearly two years of development
in high technology braking systems.
Although the weight is virtually identical
to the existing SuperLite full-floaters, the
new design bristles with many new and
innovative features making the all new
patent pending AXIS Design substantially
stronger and with much improved thermal
transfer capabilities.
Braketech features:
• Patented AXIS Design - featuring Direct-
Link load transfer system
• 50 percent greater tensile strength and
fatigue strength
• Ductile Iron (vs gray Iron)
• CRYOGENIC treatment for material
TiForce exhaust systems
TiForce exhaust systems are a work
of art, the quality and craftsmanship are
that good. It's easy to see why TiForce is
one of the hottest sportbike performance
exhausts around. You won't believe the
power gains - not to mention the looks.
Galespeed wheels Forged magnesium.
Physics shows the heavier the object to
move the more energy consumption that
is needed.
Physics also shows that the heavier the
object traveling the more effort needed to
stop it, creating greater friction.
So in relation to motorcycles weight
saving can dramatically enhance a
motorbikes’ handling and performance.
Weight saving will translate into less
energy to control, better performance,
better handling, better braking and better
acceleration.
Galespeed wheels are designed,
forged and CNC machined to a high
quality to satisfy motorcycle enthusiasts
who seek better performance.
Cover Up Cowboy
Top Saddlery Tank Cover revolutionises
the traditional tank cover, while
replicating the existing factory colour
scheme. The Tank Cover will cover the
entire tank and protect it from the elements
that you would normally endure
during riding.
There are many variations in colour
according to the bike you have. Two sizes
of tank bags are made and these secure
tightly to the tank with a variation of fasteners
so they will not move.
The Top Saddlery Tank Cover has
either a three or four point clip system
for the attachment of a Top Saddlery Tank
Bag. Two clips at the front and one or two
at the back to hold it in place.
The Top Saddlery Tank Bag offers
maximum protection at high speeds and
can be colour matched to suit the Top
Saddlery Tank Cover, which will in turn
match the factory finish of the motorcycle.
All Tank Covers have a hole on the top
so that you can fill up with petrol, when
it’s time to refuel press the rear tabs to release,
and the Tank Bag swivels up on the
D-rings for easy access to the fuel cap.
The Top Saddlery Tank Bag is made
from coated PVC cloth and nylon which
attaches by D-rings into the clips on the
top of the Tank Cover and then clips into
position. The rear D-ring locks into the
mating connectors on the base of the
Tank Cover.
The Top Saddlery Tank Cover and Bag
Combo centralises the added mass of
extra luggage, giving the most neutral
handling characteristics of any luggage
combination available.
Tank Bags
Aventura:
• 30L Capacity
• Attaches to tank cover by two straps
and two clips
Cramping Your Style
CrampBuster is just what it says, it
provides a way for comfortable throttle
control while dramatically reducing wrist
fatigue caused by long rides.
No tools are required for installation.
Just spring it open and slip it on.
The original CrampBuster started life
as a ‘one size fits all’ motorcycle cruise
assist. It was originally designed 1 1/8”
in diameter with the paddle portion
protruding back toward the rider. This
first model fits all metric bikes as well as
standard Harley grips.
When Harley introduced their
oversized grips a few years ago,
some people complained of having
to work too hard to stretch the
Standard CrampBuster to install it.
So CrampBuster responded with an
oversized model, which is still the same
shape as the standard but increased to
1 3/8” in diameter.
The next modification came when
the folks at CrampBuster noticed some
pretty interesting looking CrampBusters.
While most liked the CrampBuster just
the way it was, it seemed that a few felt
it was slightly longer than they wanted.
So a shorter model was made available,
the new Standard Wide model was
introduced as the third member of the
CrampBuster family.
Owners of oversize Harley grips
began to clamor for both design options
to be made available to them so now
there’s the Oversize Wide model.
Yoshimura Off Road & ATV Mufflers
Yoshimura recently celebrated 53 years
of making power. The company’s history is a
reflection of the evolution of motorcycle racing
during this same period.
With strong relationships with Team Rockstar
Suzuki, ATV Team Suzuki and the Honda USA
Factory SX/MX Teams, Yoshimura off-road
pipes are a champion’s choice.
For 2006, Yoshimura introduced the new
RS2 muffler for most late model off road
motorcycles. It features a unique diamond
shape that runs cooler, enhancing packing
material longevity and reducing the time
between repacks. The RS2 also incorporates
the new cone-style end cap with in built
spark arrestor.
The Comp Series mufflers and full systems
are 2008 Australian and New Zealand race
compliant at 96db.
For the ATV Suzuki LTR450, Yoshimura took
the research and development of its race team
and made it available to the public. For ATVs,
Yoshimura has developed the RS7 with the new
magnesium endcap, and hexagonal shape
muffler this not only adds a trick look, but also
adds a performance gain.
Jardine RT-5 Off-Road Exhaust
What Jardine knows is offroad, and the
company has a history of building performance
exhaust systems for factory teams such as
American Honda’s road racing program.
This legacy has been applied to Jardine’s
offroad line and the evolution has produced the
RT-5 exhaust.
Jardine’s offroad exhaust program continues
to gain pace. This year, Jardine teamed up with
Ty Davis’ ZIP-TY Racing to compete with the
new RT-5 in the AMA ntional events.
The RT-5 is now available for all major four
stroke off-road machines.
It’s stronger, lighter, quieter and more
powerful. Mat Mladin products are available
JUST CRUISIN’
If you’ve ever done much long distance
riding, you will notice that your right wrist
often tires long before the rest of your
body, especially on those dead straight
stretches of highways and open plains.
What’s needed is a simple devise that
allows you to cover the miles while giving
your throttle hand a welcome rest.
Fortunately KAOKO a South African
manufacturer of long range fuel tanks,
luggage systems, and handle bar risers for
the BMW GS range of bikes makes one, a
manual friction type cruise control for late
model European and Japanese bikes.
Formula 1 Exhausts
Formula 1 Motorcycle Exhausts now
has available replacement mufflers for the
Yamaha XV1900 and XVS1300 Cruisers.
These mufflers are Australian made with
a quality chrome finish. They are both slipons
and produce a deep v-twin note that is
louder than stock but not offensive.
KAOKO`s simple and ingenious design
replaces the original bar end weight,
sliding inside the throttle tube which
leaves only the large knurled friction wheel
visible. Installation takes minutes and the
action is silky smooth.
Actuation is a breeze, unlike many
other types, the friction wheel is
placed right where it’s needed
and can be rolled on even if
wearing the thickest of winter
gloves.
The unit is fully serviceable
and a grub screw allows you
to set the desired level of
resistance as required as well as
The XV1900 muffler offers a
considerable weight saving and there is
some improved overall performance.
The XVS1300 is a twin muffler set-up
which changes the look of a motorbike
dramatically.
The mufflers are available in both slash
and straight cut finish and are well priced.
With 25 percent off recommended retail
take up wear. Prices start at $120, use it
once on a long trip and the price will seem
like a bargain for the relief it will bring.
Units for BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM,
Triumph, Suzuki, Yamaha etc, Available
from Motorrad Garage 08 9444 6807
or visit www.motorradgarage.com.au
Typical Kaoko throttle Control Installation
price for shops, they offer a good margin.
Formula 1 Motorcycle Exhausts make
systems for many different models from
older Japanese fours to current cruisers.
The company is also the Australian
distributor for Laser Exhausts, so there is
a good chance they can help with most
exhaust enquiries. Phone for more details
AVON COOKS UP A STORM
Avon Tyres is has a new sport-touring tyre range named Storm-
ST, replacing its highly popular Azaro-ST product. Storm-ST has
already been tested in conjunction with the well-respected German
TUV agency and approved for fitment to all major motorcycles.
The tyres will be available from January 2007 in 15 sizes:
Fronts AV55 - 110/70ZR17, 110/80ZR18, 120/60ZR17,
120/70ZR17, 120/70ZR18, 130/70ZR17
Rears - AV56 -150/70ZR17,
150/70ZR18, 160/60ZR17,
160/70ZR17, 160/60ZR18,
170/60ZR17, 180/55ZR17,
190/50ZR17, 200/50ZR17.
Storm-ST is the first tyre to
include Avon’s new ‘Reactive
Footprint’ technology.
Reactive Footprint
technology marries Avon’s
unique variable belt density
carcass with Lifetime Profile
Engineering to produce a
footprint which changes size
and shape, depending on the
bike’s lean angle, for the full
life of the tyre.
The result is a contact
patch that grows as the bike
leans, giving more grip in
corners while minimising
wear rates when travelling in a straight line. This technological
breakthrough could eliminate the need to use dual compounds and
would help solve the uneven wear problems associated with them.
Pete McNally, Avon’s Motorcycle Product Manager said: “These
new technologies combine to make a tyre that doesn’t just handle
well when new but also in the last 25 percent of its life.
“With Storm-ST it’s not just the compound that’s harder in the
centre and softer at the edges, it’s the whole tyre. We believe we
are the first manufacturer to produce a reactive footprint tyre for
s e r v i c e p a r t s
motorcycles.” In addition to Reactive
Footprint technology and Lifetime Profile
Engineering,
Storm-ST is bristling with an impressive
array of advanced features: A new Super-
Rich Silica compound delivers sure-footed
grip in both wet and dry conditions and
allows the tyre to quickly warm up to reach
optimum working temperatures.
‘Inverted Front Grooves’ on the front
tyre, a system pioneered by Avon in the
late 1980s and now being adopted by
the competition, resists ‘stepped-wear’
and ‘cupping’ to deliver smooth handling
throughout the tyre’s life. A further
advantage of this configuration is improved
wet braking and shorter stopping distances.
The Storm-ST rear benefits from Avon’s Enhanced Aqua Flow
pattern, first used in sports tyres, which rapidly clears away surface
water to further increase confidence in the wet.
Also developed for sports tyres and now built into Storm-ST
is Avon’s Advanced Tread Arc Combination profile which varies
the tread profile across the tyre for the ultimate in handling and
stability, whatever the lean angle. The ATAC profile results in neutral
contours, ensuring smoother transition on lean angle changes, and
noticeably increases stability, especially under heavy braking.
Finally, all components are fine-tuned by Avon’s Enhanced
Stability System to deliver a tyre in which the carcass, sidewalls and
tread pattern work together to reduce localised flexing within the tyre
structure to optimise grip, durability and warm-up capabilities.
Adams is an Ikon
This year has been an exciting year for Ikon Suspension, one of Australia’s motorcycle
suspension manufacturers.
A significant highlight of the year was the success of nine-times Australian 500cc Solo
Speedway champion Leigh Adams.
Adams and Geoff Lowe at Ikon Suspension got together early in the 2007 and developed a
shock absorber for the leading link style front suspension used on the 500cc machines.
The shock absorber found immediate success at the Adelaide round of the 2007 Australian
titles where Adams won all his heats as well as the final with the first of the new shock absorbers.
Since then Adams has gone on to have his most successful year in the Speedway Grand Prix
series in Europe where he currently lies in second place in the world championship.
The shock absorber a derivative of Ikon Suspensions’ 7614 series.
The 7614 series are a lightweight aluminium bodied shock absorber that is gas pressurised
and has a 4-position rebound adjustment.
These shock absorbers are fully serviceable and are available for a variety of motorcycles.
Protect your customer. Most rubber hoses are permeable – they allow brake fluid to absorb water vapour from the atmosphere. Our stainless steel braided
brake hose kits don’t allow this to happen – they offer the ultimate full metal jacket. They make brake systems more responsive and remove the swelling
found with rubber hoses under extreme braking conditions to deliver ultimate feel and response when your customers need it most. Our kits offer complete
braking performance coupled with quality, safety, and a lifetime of performance. Our hoses are manufactured to exact specifications using the highest
quality stainless steel parts and our kits include all the banjo bolts and copper washers.
As our hoses are made specifically for individual bikes, your workshop staff, and or your customer can easily install them. We also cater for custom lengths
needed for restorations and modifications by customers. All our hoses comply with the Australian Design Rules, with the inclusion of the HEL- ADR boot
Good look, great feel
Stainless steel braided brake lines
are top class performers with a top class
look but it is important to ensure that the
ones you get are street legal.
Goodridge stainless steel braided
brake lines are street legal, meet all
ADR requirements and come with a
lifetime warranty.
These high quality lines feature a
PTFE inner with a stainless steel outer
braid and help eliminate the spongy feel
brakes can get after some tough stops
and they provide a better resistance to
abrasion and corrosion.
The PTFE inner tube is compatible
with all brake and clutch fluids with the
outer cover fire resistant.
High speed, constant rapid gear
changes and fast stops put a great strain
on hydraulic systems. The lightweight
and extremely flexible PTFE hose
strongly resists expansion under high
pressure and temperature, and provides
consistent brake and clutch pedal
pressure giving firmer and more efficient
operation.
Goodridge kits also look brilliant which
is important on a motorcycle where these
parts are easily visible.
Most makes and models are
covered by the kits and cater for British,
Japanese, American, German or Italian
motorcycles.
Many colours are available for the
rider who has their bike with either
carbon or colour coded parts and wants
to compliment the look with translucent
colour brake lines; available in carbon,
blue, red, carbon look and clear cover.
Fittings for the brake lines are
available in zinc, chrome or stainless
Traditionally street legal
Traditionally street legal stainless steel braided brake hoses were
only available through a select number of outlets and always difficult
to get quickly and easily.
braidedhoses.com.au is a group of brake hose manufacturing
specialists with Australia-wide coverage that can manufacture your
stainless steel braided brake hoses to comply with the requirements
of the Australian Design Rule (ADR).
Each braidedhoses.com.au manufacturer will make your brake
hoses using genuine BrakeQuip components only.
And each manufacturer is registered with BrakeQuip and have
been issued a Compliance Certificate as proof of their commitment
to product and service.
These stainless steel hoses have been designed by BrakeQuip,
a company recognised as one of the leaders in brake hose
manufacturing technology.
Old-Fashioned ‘rubber’ brake hoses traditionally fitted to
motorcycles have a relatively short reliable life. The estimated life
of a typical rubber brake hose is six years, then they can become
safety hazards.
Brake hoses can appear okay but it is when they are subjected to
extreme pressures in an ‘emergency stop’ that they need to be in
good condition to handle this stress.
• Rubber Brake Hoses deteriorate from the inside wall as well
as the outside.
• Moisture is absorbed into brake fluid systems through
rubber brake hoses.
• Contaminants in brake fluid act abrasively on the inner wall
of rubber brake hoses.
• The rubber brake hose reinforcing fabric deteriorates
through expansion and through moisture.
• High operating temperatures in brake systems contribute to
the deterioration of rubber brake hoses.
• Rubber brake hoses swell with age and restrict flow.
Stainless steel braided brake hoses can improve safety and
enhance performance.
When you purchase a braided brake hose from braidedhoses.
com.au it comes with a certificate of compliance.
This certificate of compliance specifies that the hoses have
been made to comply with relevant ADRs and that only 'genuine'
BrakeQuip components have been used in their manufacture.
These braided brake hoses are designed for use on road bikes
and not for use in a competition environment.
Terry Hay’s Shock Treatment began
its specialised motorcycle suspension
operation in 1996. Today Terry and Shock
Treatment are one of Australia’s premier
suspension outlets solving design issues
with stock suspension as well as industry
leaders in innovative concepts and ideas.
In a non-regulated industry where
untrained people are allowed to call
themselves “suspension tuners”, Shock
Treatment has attempted to raise the
standard through education by regularly
hosting training seminars in Australia.
At Shock Treatment the test facilities are
the envy of every suspension tuner.
Not to mention the factory teams who
are also frequent visitors.
The company also has its own
motocross, supercross, enduro and
natural terrain grass tracks for thorough
Why the Shock Treatment?
testing and development of suspension
products and procedures.
A complete service involves initial rider
to bike set-up, a track test to determine
rider style, ability and perhaps unique
considerations as well as unwanted traits
in the motorcycle’s performance.
The comes the
disassembly of motorcycle
and suspension
components and finally
reassembly and final track
test and tune to optimise
suspension changes.
With this level of
support available, why
would you simply hand
your suspension over a
counter so someone can
take a best guess?
All bikes receive the same attention to
detail. Shock Treatment will guarantee
you will love your new suspension and if
you don’t then the company will make any
changes within 90 days at no charge
HEL Performance now manufactured in Australia.
With HEL Performance there is
now no need to wait weeks for a stock
replacement or custom brake line kit, next
day delivery is the way to go.
HEL Performance stainless steel
motorcycle brake lines has more than
3800 stainless steel brake line kits online
as well as a large range of oil cooler
and stainless steel oil line kits. When
you consider that a GSXR1000 can do
a standing quarter mile in 10.8 seconds
with a terminal speed of 222km/h and the
brakes have to do the same amount of
work to stop it in just 6.8 seconds.
That’s a pretty easy view of how much
power is released when you squeeze the
brakes on.
By fitting HEL Performance Stainless
Steel Brake Lines you can not only make
that more powerful but more reliable.
One of HEL’s newest products is the
HEL Titanium Brake Line Kit which can
save weight, an important consideration
on motorcycle.
Check out HEL’s new Titanium Mini
Site for a new range of hoses which
come complete with titanium fittings,
titanium ferrules and titanium banjo
bolts. These offer a 57 percent weight
saving on the company’s stainless steel
items and titanium is twice as strong as
aluminium.
Standing Up to the Competition
Chris Anderson started making bike
stands more than 25 years ago and first
advertised them in a national magazine
under his business name Anderson Bike
Stands. By 1988 he had renamed the
business CBA Engineering, and the bike
stands were still a substantial part of that
business.
CBA continues to manufacture bike
stands in-house but has diversified
substantially offering a broader range of
engineering services.
To enable these services to prosper
CBA has moved to larger premises
at Minto. Anderson Stands are
manufactured in-house and sold directly
from CBA to retailers, this means that
any issues or questions can be tackled
directly by the designer.
Big Wheel Ezi Lift Universal Rear
Stands
According to CBA the company was
the first to make an adjustable width rear
swing arm stand with interchangeable
forked and L shaped pick-up
attachments.
That was in 1987 and since then the
design is just about everywhere.
So CBA is trend setting again.
By dramatically increasing the size of
the wheels, they have improved the
mechanical advantage at the first part of
the lift. The BIG WHEEL- EZY LIFT rear
stand requires up to 30 percent less effort
to raise the bike onto the stand and that’s
got to be good for any workshop.
Tour Prop
This handy stainless steel prop fits
under a bike seat so it can be carried
everywhere. It works in conjunction with
the bike’s own side-stand, and is perfect
for lubing the chain, or removing the
rear wheel.
Radial Caliper Mount Front Stand
Today’s bikes with radial mounted
brake calipers lend themselves to a stand
which has lifting pins that engage on the
brake caliper mount structure on the fork
legs. This makes for a more stable front
stand that is easier to use.
This product can be used on the
Yamaha R1 and R6, Honda CBR1000R
and CBR600R, Triumph 675 Daytona,
Aprilia RSV1000, Suzuki GSXR1000 and
600, Kawasaki ZX6, ZX10 and ZX14, MV
Agusta (all models even the ones without
radial calipers), Ducati 1098, and BMW
K1200 R & S
Right Handed Single-Sided Swing
Arm Stands
CBA is making both the standard and
the space saver single sided swing-arm
stands in right handed versions to suit the
new BMW R1200 and F800 ranges.
Anderson universal stands (Standard
w o r k s h o p
and Spacesaver) always come with L
shaped and forked attachments.
The L shaped attachments pivot, with
a stop to prevent them pivoting too far.
They are weighted to the rear so they
naturally fall into the correct position
ready for lifting the bike.
Anderson single sided swing arm
stands (standard and Spacesaver) have
more bracing to the bearing housing than
any other stands on the market.
This makes the bike more stable on
the stand. The pick-up shaft is mounted
on bearings to allow the shaft to rotate
with the wheel, ckup knobs come in
anodised colours of black, gold, red,
blue, and natural silver.
TEXA Tech Suff
The technical evolution has certainly
hit the bike business and the demands
placed on the workshop are higher and
more technical than ever before.
With various systems now integrated,
such as injection and immobilizers, it
has meant that most bike makers have
adopted CAN interconnection devices.
And of course, each bike maker has
developed specific diagnostic tools,
which are available readily to its service
networks but not necessarily to the
general workshop.
In order to keep up with today’s
technology service workshops must look
for universal solutions to fix the hi-tech
problems.
TEXA is one company that provides
that solution with its AXONE 2000 tool.
The Axone 2000 Motor Bike is a
universal interface for service technicians
to deal with various solutions adopted by
different manufacturers.
With this tool a workshop is capable
of rapidly pinpointing the cause of faults
which would otherwise be difficult - if not
even impossible - to solve.
The idea that diagnostic tools are only
used to solve breakdowns and that they
are seldom necessary is no longer true.
Electronic systems fitted in motorcycles
today govern many functions and
operations that were once mechanical.
For example, the use of a diagnostic
tool is required to send controls to the
electronic control unit that governs
engine carburetion, controls for CO exhaust regulation and for
throttle position learning.
The need for routine maintenance, service deadlines and
diagnostic alarms for systems equipping modern motorcycles
are indicated by special service warning lights on the dashboard.
There are two types of indications:
- routine maintenance deadline warning light
- system failure alarm warning light
In both cases, service
technicians need to switch
the warning lights off after the
completion of the necessary
service operations. Switching off
the warning lights means that the
normal running conditions are
being restored.
The need for a universal tool
which is capable of programming
future deadlines and above all
reading the alarm which caused
the failure warning light to come
on is obvious.
Today even an apparently simple operation like replacing a
key requires the adoption of special
procedures and the use of a working tool.
With technology changes occurring so rapidly there is an
obvious need to keep up, so TEXA has solved the problem of
frequent updating needed to guarantee the role of its Axone
2000 universal tool by releasing updates and corrections
and following the normal evolution planned by the various
manufacturers. To do this TEXA has created Networking Service,
a completely automatic system for online updating of TEXA tools
on the Internet.
Axone 2000 Motor Bike with the
connector kit connects directly to the
internet to download upgrades and
updates using a telephone line without
needing a computer.
Efficiency Gains from Italy
The latest in dedicated Motorcycle
workshop equipment has arrived in
Australia.
Manufactured in Italy, Bikelift boasts
the latest technology in design and
construction of bike lifts, paddock stands,
tyre machines, tyre balancers and other
equipment.
The designs from Bikelift are constantly
upgraded incorporating easier-to-use
features.
The benches and machines use high
quality materials and innovative design
concepts to maximise profitability by
making some two or three-man jobs able to
be done with just one person.
The most popular of the 2007 additions
to the range is the B-35E, a digital tyre
balancer which is the same size as a
normal static balancer and a fraction of the
price of regular digital tyre balancers.
Some changes have been made to the
flagship model of the company, the Max
500 Twin Arms. This is the bike bench that
allows the bike to be lifted off the platform
either at the rear or the front, or both, with
a set of hydraulic arms attaching to the
footpegs.
Need a full size bike lift but have no space?
No problem! Kendon Bike Lifts
are heavy-duty, full-sized motorcycle
maintenance lifts for the shop, showroom
or the home.
The Kendon Stand Up Motorcycle
Maintenance Chopper, Cruiser and Sport
Lifts are the latest designed lifts, utilising
super-strong rectangular tubing in the
scissor mechanism.
Another great feature is the removable
front wheel loop. Simply raise the
motorcycle off the bed of the Lift (using
the optional Frame Jack) and remove
the front section of the integrated Wheel
Chock Assembly to get complete access
to the front wheel of the motorcycle.
All three are full-sized lifts that are
completely portable and can be stored
in a space about 18-inches by 24-inches.
Lifts can also be positioned at three
different heights. They are completely
portable and use a hydraulic cylinder
to raise and lower the Lifts. The Cruiser
Lift & Chopper Lift will raise 454 kg, and
the Sport Lift will raise 272 kg. All are
completely powder coated for a longlasting
attractive finish. The Lifts have
some great optional accessories too! All
three can use the newly redesigned Oil
Drain Pan, the Frame Jackand the 18-inch
stainless steel service tray.
Air Over Hydraulic now included on
all lifts. The air-over-hydraulic jack makes
the bike lift usable anywhere. Raise the
platform wherever you happen to be
working using the manual hydraulic pump,
or use the lift in a shop environment with
compressed air doing the heavy lifting.
