Session of the Commision of Population and Development of
the United Nations Economic and Social Council on International Migration and Development
Republic of Cameroon
Position Paper
Delegate: Stefanie Weck
Date: June 16 th and 17 th , 2007
The Rebublic of Cameroon exposes its position refering to its peaceful and stable state.
Throughout the years no war or ethnic ejection has urged cameroonian habitants to leave their
country by force. Nonetheless the Republic of Cameroon has admitted residence to refugees
and work-seekers from Chad as well as from Nigeria and other African countries. Because of
such minor shifts of population altogether with its moderate condition of the state the
government considers the migration level as satisfactory and is hence unobstructively able to
focus on international awareness and on creating a worldwide competitive market.
Due to an extending developement of global interaction and business making the Repulic of
Cameroon claims it rather to be important to be concerned about transnational actions of the
Western Civilization. Therefore the Republic of Cameroon is applying great effort to meet the
standards of high developed countries and to attract foreign investigators by providing very
substantial incentives for overseas corporations.
Cameroon features a great variety of natural resourches such as oil, limestone, bauxite, iron
ore, cassiterite (tin), sapphires, rubies, diamonds, gold, molybdenum, rutile, uranium, natural
gas, and in fact most known minerals. Besides rubber, palm oil, cotton, cacao, coffee, tea,
bananas, pineapples, haricot beans, sugar, potatoes of various varieties, and a variety of fruit
and vegetables offer a wide range of crops for export and local use.
Thus the government of the Republic of Cameroon faciliates international trade by forming a
liberal market which allows enterprises producing goods and services for export likewise
industrial free zones, concessions related to taxes, trade and labor as well as commercial
benefits. Also the national government has embarked on a major program of privatisation in
order to sustain private investments as a major force to the economy and developing growth.
On account of this the Republic of Cameroon calls the Economic and Social Council to foster
the efforts of a developing country eager to approach to Western standards. It invokes the
urge of sending professional support, qualified employees and advanced devices to the
Cameroonians. The government of Cameroon would like to remind the Economic and Social
Council of an eduring collaboration deriving from history and longterm relations between
Africa and the Western Civilization. At this matter freedom of movement especially in case of
education and work-seeking is more than necessary so as to generate a greater knowledge,
achieve adequate training but also to improve the living and work conditions. The Republic of
Cameroon respectfully demands to the Economic and Social Council to facilitate traveling
and working to Europe as well as to provide assistance to medical care, educational
developement and monetary issues, likewise.
The Republic of Cameroon assures a strong emphasis on collaboration and commits itsself to
its responsibility within the international community.
