ESOL Advice <strong>and</strong> Guidance<br />

All applicants for ESOL courses have an individual interview<br />

<strong>and</strong> language test to assess their level <strong>and</strong> decide the best course<br />

for them. Advice <strong>and</strong> Guidance is held at both Wornington <strong>and</strong><br />

Hortensia Centres.<br />

ESOL GENERAL LANGUAGE COURSES<br />

You can do general English language courses from Entry 1 to Level 2 <strong>and</strong><br />

gain a nationally recognised ESOL Skills for Life qualification. You will<br />

develop your listening, speaking, reading <strong>and</strong> writing skills. All courses<br />

include tutorials so that students have the opportunity to work out an<br />

individual learning plan with their tutor. There are also opportunities to<br />

work in the computer suite <strong>and</strong> integrate ICT skills with language work.<br />

ESOL Level 1 – Higher Intermediate<br />

ESOL Level 2 – Advanced<br />

Students who have a particular need to develop<br />

reading <strong>and</strong> writing skills in English will be referred<br />

to an ESOL Literacy class at the appropriate level.<br />

Classes are offered at:<br />

ESOL Entry Level 1A – Beginners<br />

ESOL Entry Level 1B – Post-beginner<br />

ESOL Entry Level 2 – Elementary<br />

ESOL Entry Level 3 – Intermediate<br />

For students receiving Benefits, ESOL courses are free (See page 90 for details).<br />

There may be opportunities to study ESOL alongside<br />

some vocational subjects such as Childcare. If you<br />

are interested in this kind of course, please ask at<br />
