January and April Course Listings 2008 Course Code Venue Date Time Standard Fees Concession Fees Reading and Writing These courses are primarily for people who have English as their first language. If you want to learn English as another language, please look for courses with ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). Improve your Reading and Writing 1 Entry level Small, friendly classes where you learn to read and write and study the basics of spelling. Improve your Reading and Writing 2 Entry level An opportunity to refresh and develop reading and writing skills. Learn how to read and write for different purposes and increase your confidence in spelling and punctuation. Improve your Reading and Writing 3 Entry level Take your reading and writing skills to a higher level, increase your confidence and get the skills you need to take on important daily reading and writing tasks. Improving your Reading and Writing 4 Level 1 Extend your skills with more complex spelling, punctuation and grammar, and learn how to structure your writing. Develop fluency and a greater vocabulary in your reading and writing. GCSE English Language Level 2 If you have well developed reading skills, feel confident about your writing and need GCSE for access to employment, further study or for your personal development, this will be a rewarding course for you. Get help with money sums, measuring and the basics of fractions. Improve your Maths Entry level Already have the basics? Become comfortable with fractions and decimals, make friends with centimetres and metres, and sort out that division and multiplication. reading, writing & maths Intermediate Maths Level 1 You haven’t done maths classes for a while, but are fairly comfortable with numbers. Perhaps you want a refresher course before starting GCSE – this is the course for you. GCSE Maths Level 2 This course is for anyone with a good grounding in maths who needs GCSE level for access to employment, university or teacher training. Topics include geometry and graphs, algebra and statistics. The final grade comes from course work (20%) and written exams (80%) Enrolment for GCSE takes place only in June, July, September and October. It is not possible to join a GCSE course in January.
