A.—Distillation of Petroleum.<br />
<strong>The</strong> method of exam<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g crude petroleum for determi-<br />
nation of its commercial value, is not that of fractional<br />
distillation <strong>in</strong> its true, scientific sense, but consists <strong>in</strong> a<br />
process of distillation wliich separates the liquid <strong>in</strong>to a<br />
certa<strong>in</strong> number of aliquot parts, hav<strong>in</strong>g determ<strong>in</strong>able den-<br />
sities, and flash<strong>in</strong>g po<strong>in</strong>ts ; and the value of the sample<br />
depends upon the proportion of the light and heavy pro-<br />
ducts.<br />
