And speaking of “That Loooong Race”, CSCC member Chris Herzog (#93) in his ‘93
Ford Mustang AGS is pressed by Josh Helfand in a 2003 Monte Carlo that runs in the
GT1 class. The great weather for the October 20/21 weekend prompted a few drivers to
register at the track and compete in the final 2007 Midwestern Council Championship
series event. With a near record turnout, the Stewards, Race Staff, T&S, and Safety &
Rescue teams kept the event safe and on schedule throughout the weekend.

MC Autocross Staff Position Opening
Dear Midwestern Council Members,
I am writing to you all in the hopes we can get the message
out that the AutoCross needs a Chief of Tech. This
would be a great opportunity for anyone interested in
helping out the AutoCross program. AutoCrossers make
up a large number of Midwestern Council members and
it’s very important that we keep running a successful program
and fill these positions. The Midwestern Council
Board of Directors is a wonderful group of people who
always extend a helping hand and advice, and any interested
persons will have no problem fitting in and feeling
right at home. Anyone interested can contact me at
boys_republic@hotmail.com.
Sincerely,
Eric Hoffman
October 2007 CSCC Club Meeting
Minutes of the October 24th, 2007 Chicagoland Sports Car Club
General Membership and BOD Meeting.
Attendees: Frank Riemann, Rich Cwik, Paul Schindlbeck, Alden
Wells, Lois Berg-Wells, Dale Kofoed, Frank Hartl, Larry
Best, Jay Busse, Mike Schindlbeck, Gary Weis.
Beer and pop arrives at 7:20 PM, and President orders salad
at 7:26 PM.
Call to Order: Meeting called to order at 7:39 by President
Jay.
We then had a brief discussion of Dave Korwin’s PPG Pace Car
(as used at the Loooong Race) (this took place during the call
to order).
Move to accept minutes of the September meeting as distributed
(and printed herein) M&2nd-pass.
Treasurer’s Report (LB): There is no official Treasurer’s report
prepared as the Loooong Race expenses are still being processed.
We spent about $32,000.00 on the race. We seem to
have done OK on the race, and, after the final bills are paid and
refunds processed, MC fees paid, etc., LB will generate a report
& mail to the appropriate people (the Board). We had 218 registered,
but there were only about 194-5 actually on the track.
After the final accounting is done, we will invest the money in
another CD. Move to accept Treasurer’s Report as distributed
(AW), 2nd (RC)-pass.
Membership report (JB): The number of members is unchanged.
Loooong Race report (LB): Larry would like to thank everybody
who turned out for the race and helped to make it a success.
We actually had enough staff for a change, so that everything
was covered. (We then briefly diverted into a discussion of Jay’s
elite “poster rolling” team, consisting of people who showed up
early Friday night to register and got put to work first, helping us
get registration up and running). The Race included:
46 Vintage/historic cars
18 Large Prod/GT
34 Small production
40 showroom/IT
27 Big Formula
18 Little Formula
32 entered in the Big Wheel Race. Plus, a whole trailer and an
additional van full of Trick-or-Treaters!
We were also charged $100.00 for a guardrail post damaged in
one of the Saturday races on the outside of Corner 6, which was
backed into by a competitor (no damage to the car).
PLEASE DO NOT USE THE SCALE BASE AS FIREWOOD!
(Somebody tried).
BFR graded an area by the front gate, which will be for a new
building, for BFR offices and the shop of Frisby Tire, who is
relocating their entire operation to Blackhawk.
Jay suggested that we take some part of the actual profit”
from the race and re-invest it in Loooong Race improvements.
Comments? Ideas?
We had a brief discussion of MC’s need for new T & S
equipment and new radios( FCC rules change in 2010).
Jay pointed out that MC has an “Equipment Fund”, budgeted
at $3000.00/year, which they haven’t touched in
the last 3 or 4 years. Continued on Page 3
The Downshift - Page
October Meeting Minutes (continued)
That amount of money should be enough to cover radios and T
&S equipment without an additional levy to the clubs.
We also had a discussion about “What do we spend the Worker’s
Fund” money on? We seem to pay additionally for the gas
used to get the trailer to BFR for the Loooong Race, but is this
the club’s or MC’s responsibility? We paid last year as well.
We’re thinking about contributing to the 50th Anniversary year
as well, but how much beer can you drink?, And how many fireworks
do they need?
We had a discussion about the concerns of the Vintage/Historic
group and their concerns about their part of the event. Some of
the comments were on the order of “My car can’t run 2 25 lap
races in one day! We wish we could run on both days so we
could stay and socialize”. We will address the schedule options
in future meetings. We also thank those V/H drivers that stayed
over for Sunday’s events and pitched in to work a corner or
other Club specialty. CSCC recognizes the importance of the
V/H program and will work toward understanding the needs of
the competitors.
Do we want to put up a display and attract younger drivers
to the MC AX and W2W program? To be discussed further
at the next meeting.
We are looking for “Then and Now” pictures of Licensed
MC drivers for the 50th Anniversary. An example, Frank Riemann
with his original car (and he Still has it), and Frank today
with his Swift. Pictures to the newsletter editor, please.
EVERYBODY got a trophy at the Loooong Race. Did you
pick yours up?
Move to adjourn at 9:15 pm by (MS)-pass
Minutes taken and transcribed by Rich Cwik, CSCC Secretary.
We then discussed big rigs left around blocking the paddock side
of the pits, tying up all the pit straight parking areas. BIG RIGS
WITH NOBODY IN THEM NEED TO PARK ELSEWHERE.
CSCC BoD Elections: The preliminary (nominating) ballot will
go out around the time of the November meeting, with the final
ballot going out end of November-beginning of December. At
the December meeting we will install the new officers, and announce
them at the banquet.
2008 Race dates:
Road America: August 22, 23
Autobahn: June 7, October 4&5
Blackhawk: 2 one-day DS/W2W and 6 two day events
Notes from the MC Contest Board:
Milwaukee Mile-not likely for 2008, still talking to Grattan and
GingerMan.
The MC banquet will be the last Saturday of January at the
Clock Tower in Rockford-details in the Klaxon.
Number of trophies at race events-was ruled a club decision.
It was voted to allow 16 and 17 year olds to race, pending some
procedural issues on MC’s part.
Window nets will be required in all closed cars in 2008, including
Vintage/Historic Cars.
October 24th was the MC finance committee meeting.
There was a suggestion to add an” Auto Update “software feature
to the online GCR, so that you can get this week’s rules
changes whenever you turn on your computer (like Windows
Update, or an Anti-Virus update).
Jay brought up the club revitalization issue. We continue growing,
but we either need to get the new people involved in the
administration of the club, or we need to downsize the number
of old members who are running the club. We need new people
and new ideas, and we need to change the way we do business.
Next year, Jay indicated he will NOT be on the Board. The
current Board is getting too old. Are you a customer or a club
member?
We then had a brief discussion about amending the by-laws,
and the nominating process.
New Business: LB Talked about the Go-cart show at the Renaissance
Center. Last year DRE/WREP was there, with a Formula
First car, talking up amateur road racing. The booth cost
is about $600.00 for a basic space.

Prairie Hills Motorsport Club - On The Fast Track
On November 6th, Prairie Hills Motorsport Club partners received more good news in realizing a dream come true.
At the meeting of the Newton County Commissioners, the group unanimously approved the PUD (Planned Unit Development)
giving the green light to go forward with further development. “We’re tremendously excited to reach this
milepost. And we’re pleased that the commissioners and our friends in the community share our vision in developing
this premier facility,” said Prairie Hills CEO Michael Krupka.
Both Prairie Hills Motorsport Club and the local community will benefit significantly by the new venture. When the
facility opens, the organization will employ 57 full-time staff members and 61 part-time workers. The new business
will also provide additional tax revenue, training and other benefits for the citizens of the area. In addition, the club
infrastructure was designed so as not to require resources from the county. One example is the self-contained waste
treatment plant to be installed on the premises.
Prairie Hills Motorsport Club will provide a unique lifestyle experience for automotive enthusiasts. Primary members
of the club will be professionals who are active in motorsports and who have a great passion for driving or racing
cars at a safe and exclusive facility. The racing track will be the longest in the Western Hemisphere and will be
designed to be utilized in over 3,600 configurations. The club will provide fine and casual dining, vehicle storage, a
clubhouse, spa, gym, game room for children and retail shopping for members and guests. Trackside buildings will
house corporate facilities, race team garages and locker rooms. Business plans also include corporate programs,
team building and banquet and convention services.
Ladies and gentlemen, start your bulldozers. With Prairie Hills Motorsport Club activities increasing, a groundbreaking
is expected in December. “Our goal is to have the track completed by fall of 2008,” said Mr. Krupka. “The club
should be in full operation by spring of 2009.” The clubhouse is scheduled to be open for private previews and community
events in March of that year. And a Grand Opening has been proposed for the first Saturday in April.
Prairie Hills Motorsport Club will be located off interstate I-65 west of Exit 220 between Indianapolis and Chicago.
The club will be convenient for those automotive enthusiasts in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan and surrounding
areas. Memberships are now available at a pre-construction initiation fee for those who sign up early. More
membership details can be found at www.prairiehillsmc.com or by contacting Rob Lindgren at 219-394-2600 or
Participation in the Annual “Jerry Smith Big Wheel Race” competition was very
good this year, with near record turnout for each of the age groups in the program.
Many Thanks to Patt Martin for organizing the event and to all of the Race Staff,
and Stewards who made this work. Also thanks to Gail and Ronda for organizing
the turnout for Trick-r-Treating on Saturday for another large group of future MC
competitors. With great weather and strong participation, everyone had fun.
